Subject: What's your favourite comfort food?

Written By: Gis on 06/30/06 at 6:10 am

Cake or potatoes do it for me in times of stress, not raw potatoes obviously but fried, mashed or baked !

Sometimes I wish I was one of those people who looses their appetite when they are stressed or upset, but sadly not, food (and shopping) cheers me up !

I heard that often when making films mashed potato is used instead of ice cream because it won't melt under the hot lights.

So the answer is yes.

Crab rangoon are deep-fried dumplings served in American Chinese restaurants, stuffed with a combination of cream cheese and imitation crab meat. They are made from Chinese wontons and deep fried.

And yes, they only come in crabmeat flavor.  Hence why it's called "crab" rangoon.  They are so effing good.....every time I order Chinese, I order some.

On a Friday night after a long week at work?

Subject: Re: What's your favourite comfort food?

Written By: Foo Bar on 07/04/06 at 6:45 pm

Instant is easier to make or cook, but for time and effort natural is true!

And it's really not that much harder to make/cook.

1) Pile of pre-peeled garlic cloves, maybe 4 oz or 15-20 cloves.
2) 2 lb potatoes.  Use small enough potatoes, skins intact, and you'll never need to peel anything.
3) 1/2 stick butter.
4) 1/2 cup milk.
5) Salt/pepper to taste.

While you're cooking whatever you're having as a main course, boil the potatoes.  15-20 minutes later, they'll be done.

Throw 'em into the food processor with the other stuff.  Done in 60 seconds.

The prep time is practically nothing - basically just 5 minutes to scrub the 'taters, and 2 minutes of pulsing the food processor and adding a bit of milk every now and then.

Better yet, do 5-10 pounds' worth in batches.  Freeze the leftovers.  Mashed potatoes (with or without garlic) keep indefinitely in the freezer, and are easily reconstituted in the microwave.

I'm as skinny as a stick, so thankfully I won't gain an unsightly amount of weight. I don't eat these things on a regular basis at all, so I'm good. I'm 19 so I have some years left before my metabolism slows down in my mid or late 20's so I better enjoy it while I can. I exercise anyway.
