Subject: Lunch

Written By: CeeKay on 08/19/06 at 1:01 pm

I think the most difficult meal of the day is lunch....at least if you have kids.  What do you make for lunch other than sandwiches or mac-n-cheese.  Some choices:  Hot dogs and beans; nachos/tacos..... what else?

My kids and I have become very bored with this meal.  Should we just nibble and eliminate it altogether?

I'll be watching this post to see if I can get some ideas.

My daughter likes pasta with butter, a chicken leg, grilled cheese, ramen noodles...my son, as long as it's mac&cheese, mashed potatoes or pancakes he's happy!  LOL!!

Now that school has started lunch is the usual, turkey sandwich, apple slices and goldfish crackers.

Ramen noodles is always good.

My son loves them. Thankfully, school is returning. So it's back to sandwiches or those handy meals like Lunchables.

Vaughn usually eats turkey and cheese sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches, salads, soup, lunchables, hot dogs...stuff like that. Sometimes I will make him pita sandwiches, and he will eat mac & cheese at times.

My mom never made us lunches during the school year.  We ate the lunches the school provided for us, unless we specifically asked her to make us something.  As I recall, they were pretty yummy and not very expensive.  I could get a hot dog, chips and a pop for like $1.15.

This is a fantastic topic, because I'm really at my wit's end with lunch. Jason is pretty picky, and will only eat ONE thing at a time. So I usually make him a sandwich (which he dissects), or soup, or leftovers from the night before. I also bought him those Dino chicken nuggets, which he seems to like. He gets bored with food as well, so it shouldn't be long before he's tossing the nuggets on the floor. :P

Whatever is in the cupboard that takes no more than 5 minutes to prepare. I don't cook anything for lunch. Lunch is generally made up of a sandwich, fruit and maybe something more sweet such as a biscuit or chips when I'm a work/uni or whatever.

If you're home w/ kids of any age....

Baked potatoes w/ a choice of toppings (cheese, bacon bits, broccoli, diced tomatoes...)

I think when I was a kid my mom had this one well sorted.

Whatever was made for dinner the night before... is what I would eat for lunch.  ;D

You can try fruit and yogurt bowls or veggie bowls with dipping sauces.

I agree...lunch is always a difficult meal to come up with...

Most of the time my kids like sandwiches...or hot dogs...but I really can't be bothered to prepare anything elaborate (that's usually left for dinner)...

I often forego lunch myself and just 'snack' instead... :)

I always try to have veggies and lettuce readily available to make a salad for lunch.
As for my son - he prefers grilled cheese sandwiches, oodles of noodles, frozen pizza and hot pockets.

At 14, I have given up trying to make him eat a healthy lunch - so I try and make sure he gets it at dinner! ;)

My Mom used to make things like spagettios or egg salad.  Sometime we would have homemade veggie soup.  For school it would be a sandwich, cookies, sliced tomatoes with a pinch of salt. (Because I'm a tomato freak!!) :)

My favorite thing to have for lunch is leftovers, but since I've gotten better and better at cooking for two, we don't have them very often.  I usually have a frozen Lean Cuisine meal.  :-\\

I ate school lunch too - it was great!

My children eat their lunch at school.  Hubby and I usually have sandwiches of some kind either made at home or bought.  Occasionally I buy a pasta.

At the weekends we might have pizza and salad; jacket potatoes with beans, cheese or tuna; toasted sandwiches; scrambled egg on toast; pasta and veggie nuggets or go to Subway.

I eat my lunchtime sandwich at 11am because that's when my breaktime is! I usually make a sandwich in the morning when I get up. Mostly it's cheese because I can't be bothered to get overambitious with a sandwich at 7am, I'm barely awake.
Weekends we tend to have brunchfast as himself calls it which usually involves some manner of egg, with maybe bacon or beans or chips.

I go to college three days a week and I bring my own lunch on Mondays and Tuesdays while I buy lunch from the college cafe or a nearby restaurant on Wednesdays. On Saturdays I go out for lunch in Wood Green, London before I go to the cinema. There are places such as Nando's, Subway, Mc Donald's, Burger King, KFC, Quizno's Subs, JD Wetherspoon's and Pizza Hut.

My kids are fairly easy when it comes to lunch:  the youngest almost always has bologna (no bread, just bologna), the middle one has pb&j almost every day (except for the occasional chicken noodle soup, ravioli or spaghettios) and the oldest buys his lunch almost every day at school.  On the weekends, it's usually ramen, grilled cheese, ravioli or spaghettios.
