Subject: Favourite All-You-Can-Eat Restaurants

Written By: nondiva234 on 08/22/06 at 6:52 pm

Any favourite all-you-can-eat restaurants that you love to go to? I have several. I love to go to this restaurant here in Vancouver called Uncle Willy's. They serve really yummy food, especially their rotisserie chicken; it makes me drool. And when I go down to Washington state, I go to Golden Coral which serves the best food around!

Anyone else wanna share?

My goodness there aren't too many around here to choose from!

My whole family loves Ryan's - from steak & shrimp to Fried chicken!
And of course Golden Coral - not one of my favs but the rest of the family loves it!
And finally Asian COast - the Chinese buffet to end all buffets! 8)

By "all you can eat," I'm assuming that means places like Sizzler, Fresh Choice, Hometown Buffet...among others. I was thinking of doing a poll like this.

In places like the ones I just mentioned (which are popular in my area), what you basically do is order at the front, then go get your food from a salad bar, soup bar, bakery area... and they also have a dessert bar. In Fresh Choice, however, you get your salad and then pay at the cash register. Then you can go get your other stuff and sit down. (Or the other way around.)

They have them in Indiana as well, but those are the only two places that I know of. We had Hometown Buffet in California.

And I love the places that have a salad bar. Sometimes that tastes better than anything else they have: A nice big salad with the works and Honey Dijon dressing. Yum.

Dang.

That suprises me, you'd think as they moved out south and east they'd get there eventually.

OCB had a great caesar salad and a great bread pudding.  I miss that.  Whenever we'd go visit my grandmother back when we were living in Illinois, we'd usually eat there for lunch since she didn't feel like cooking.

All of the "All You Can Eat" restaurants around here are locally owned ones, and their food makes me ill everytime I eat it  :\'(

There's a great one in a nearby city called "North China Buffet".  not the best food, but it fills me up :)

Good deal.

They're often pretty close to the highway and make a much better meal than some of those over-priced places within spitting distance of the interstate.

I just ate at Great China Buffet; we eat there probably once a month on average.

Other AYCE restaurants I like:

Golden Corral
CiCi's
Souper Salad
Sweet Tomatoes

Sweet Tomatoes

Oh man.....my sister and I eat there at least 3 times a week.  They have AMAZING salads, and if you're a vegetarian (like I was), that is a great place to eat.  Their Sweet Tomato and Onion soup is to die for.

I like the salad places (Sweet Tomatoes, Fresh Choice, Souper Salad) and Golden Corral is okay some of the time.

How about Fogo de Chao and the other Brazilian Churrascarrias (sp) where it costs $50 for all you can eat meats brought to your table?  :D

We also have Mongolian BBQ where you get your raw meats and vegetables from the bar and they stir fry for you on a big grill and then hand it back to you.

I think most of the serve yourself restaurants are filthy. I got very sick after eating at one and think twice these days.

Sweet Tomatoes

In southern California we also have Souplantation; they're owned by the same company that owns Sweet Tomatoes. It's just called Souplantation in the southern portion of California. :) There's one that's about five miles from our house that we've been going to since before we moved out here; their food is always freshly prepared.

Good picks. O0

I actually like Souplantation a lot better than Fresh Choice; the FC locations I've been to in the past three or four years haven't lived up to their name. In fact, the Fresh Choice near my house closed down two years ago, and an El Torito is in its place now.

There used to be a Good Earth restaurant in Northridge; they started serving an all-you-can-eat buffet in 1998...but they closed down in early 2005 (after being in business for at least 20 years) and the building was dismantled.

I remember a buffet style restaraunt from the '70s called SmorgaBob's.  Ate there all  the time and I'd usually be scolded for making too many trips to the soft serve ice cream machine go ;)...

We have/had a Todai here in Dallas area. It did not impress us. Well, mainly it didn't impress my husband who eats sushi.

Does anyone remember Sir Georges Smorgasbord? This was in Southern California in the late 1960s and 1970s, maybe into the 1980s. I remember they had the most bizarre tasting jello there. My parents would take us from time to time as a treat for us and something to be tolerated for them!

Try their hot fudge cake.  If you're a chocoholic (like I am ;)), you'll LOVE it.

OCB is about all we have around here that I've eaten at.....hubby's not big on buffets, but the kids love it, they call it "the free food place" because they rarely see us pay ;D

Oh, we do have a couple of Chinese buffets that aren't too bad :P

I don't like all you can eat buffets...too many hands in the food, and whatnot.  BUT...if I HAD to choose...I would say...this place near Lancaster, Pa...it's called, "Shady Maple".....it's really good food.

yeah, the problem with those is when the little kids invade. When I was a little kid, I was ALWAYS on my best behavior in a restaurant.

the thing that grosses me out too is that you have WAY too many people touching the serving spoons...granted, I know that disgusting things happen in regular restaurants with the cooks, etc....but it just seems more likely that you would get more germs with all of the different people touching the spoons as they serve their own food.

We don't have too many around here. There is a chinese all-you-can-eat place. I like it but I have heard some people say negitive things about it. The one we usually go to is the all-you-can-eat sushi place whenever we are in L.A. Carlos LOVES sushi and they have other "cooked" foods for me.

We have a place called Ci-Ci's Pizza...and it's an all you can eat pizza/pasta/salad/dessert/drink buffet for like $3.99. It's not too bad, but the pizza isn't the best I've tasted.

Unattended is one thing, but when they have a parent or other grownup with them, that's different.

Maybe what you mean is that the kids are not allowed to get food without the assistance of a grownup.

The buffet at the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City is awesome......Actually I have read that some of the other Atlantic City Casino buffets are better than the Showboat but I think I'll stick with the Showboat....it's not cheap but if you have comps to eat on it's great....very extensive.

I freakin' hate buffets. They are dirty....kids are able to run free and pick at the food (and who knows where their fingers have been)....people push into you like you are in a herd of cows, and the food usually ends up making people sick. Blah...they can keep it.

I know what you mean.  I once saw a kid stick his hands in the Mashed Potatoes and slap some on his plate.  I like the idea of unlimited food for your money, but I wish there was a better way to get it

Ewwww.......this is one of the reasons why I hate buffets, too. Plus, for the most part, the food looks and tastes awful. I'd much rather get a decent meal at a regular restaurant.

Oh, same here. Last time we went to Golden Corral, was about 5 years ago and I swore I wouldn't eat buffet food again. The tables were like inches apart and it was packed. The food didn't look too appetizing either.  I'm sure it's germy as hell.  :P
