Subject: Spices

Written By: CatwomanofV on 12/11/07 at 1:52 pm

What are some of your favorite spices?

I like:

Garlic
I'm not too sure if you can call onions a spice or not but I do like them-especially when they are cooked.
Parsley
Ginger
Cloves
Cinnamon
Cilantro

I'm sure I will think of others later.

According to Wikipedia:

A spice is a dried seed, fruit, root, bark or vegetative substance used in nutritionally insignificant quantities as a food additive for the purpose of flavoring, and sometimes as a preservative by killing or preventing the growth of harmful bacteria.

I like most spices:

Ginger
Garlic
Lemongrass
Cumen
Rosemary
Thyme
Dried onion
Pepper (is that a spice?)
Cinnamon
Basil
Oregeno
Nutmeg
All Spice
Coriander
Mustard

A spice that I'm allergic to is Sage.

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme.  ;)

Lemon peel
Angelica
Grains of Paradise (pine)
Licorice
Coriander
Juniper
Cassia Bark (cinnamon)
Almonds
Orris Root
Cubeb berries

All that ^ goes in to gin, Bombay Sapphire gin.

Seriously, I like pepper and cilantro a lot. Not sure if Japanese horseradish (wasabi) is considered a spice, but add that, too.

Ohhh, and saffron.
