Subject: the best fries?

I personally prefer Friendly's fries.

I picked 'Dairy Queen'

Had there of been an 'other' option, I would have chosen Swiss Chalet. Their fries are not crispy like McDonalds, which I sort of like better

Local fish and chip shops will kick all the above's asses any day of the week!

Home cooked fries come in second.

Has anyone ever been to Checkers? Now those are fries to live by. Seasoned and yummy. I love them! There's a bag of frozen ones in my deep freezer right now.  ;D (Yeah, they have a frozen variety too!)

Arby's Curly Fries..Oh wait maybe that's because I worked there for over 10 yrs.

I chose Wendy's... McDonald's fries probably are the best overall, but I find that every time I go there, they're different.  They're either overcooked, undercooked, soggy, dry... It's always different, there's no consistency.  At Wendy's, they're almost always the same, and they're delicious :)  If McDonald's fries were always crispy and crunchy, I'd have chosen them  :)

They have a Checkers over here. I have yet to stop and try it though because it's in a bad part of town. :P

In America Chick-Fil-a waffle fries *drool*  Here in the U.K my home cooked or the local chip shop.

My choices:

Boardwalk fries, a local Baltimore/DC chain. All they sell is fries, fresh cut, fresh fried and served in a big cardboard cup (like at the beach boardwalk or at a carnival).
Served with malt vinegar, rock salt and a bit of Old Bay Seasoning, yummy.
With a cold, cold beer, even yummier (sp?).

Rally's (Snapp's/Checker's) batter fried are great too, wasn't sure they could make french fries more artery clogging for you than to dip then in a heavy seasoned batter!

McDonalds, strange as I simply cannot digest the rest of their menu. The fries are still the best "overall" if you can get them when they are just right, just a few minutes after they come out of the fryer and are still hot & crispy but every so slightly soft in the center.

I totally forgot about New York Fries.  They are indeed awesome!  They are the thick and fresh cut kind that blow regular thin fries out of the deep fryer 8)

Those sorta look like In n Out Burger's fries. They cut them right in front of you and fry them up fresh, with the skin still on.

Burger King is the worst. Their fries never seem like they're cooked enough  8-P.

McDonald's fries are the best... if eaten within 10 minutes of them being made.

A local place, Queen Anne, has much thicker, straight-cut fries that are really good. A large order of them is almost a meal in itself, and only like $1.50.

I love waffle cut fries, but there are no places around here that serve them.

Personally, I like In-N-Out's fries the best.

Looks like I won't be voting in the poll, since In-N-Out was not included in the poll; neither was an "other" option.

From the list I picked Burger King because I think their fries are tastier than McDonald's IMO; overall my faves are Arby's curly fries as well.

(BTW I think french fries in England are referred to as chips, ie fish and chips and they are really big and long like the picture of the New York fries earlier in the thread)

Burger King really went down the tubes somewhere in late 2000 or 2001 when they ditched the new fry recipe from 1997. That’s also around the time when you couldn’t smell your food from the bag.

Ironically enough, McDonald’s cheeseburgers tasted better from the 80s into the 2000s when it didn’t seem like the patties were made entirely of beef.

Why do they put salt on them and then they give you salt packets afterwards, how much salt does one need?  ::)

Most people don’t use the ionized salt packets, but there is a small minority of people who like their fast food a little saltier than it is served.  :o

Of course, that can sometimes lead to hypertension, but those people would tell you can’t taste the salt on their fries or their fries did not look to have much salt on them. There are pepper packets, also, but no one I have known has ever had to use them at a burger fast food spot.

I agree.  I had a friend from 20 years ago who said Mcdonalds burgers were composed of half beef and half edible plastic.  Don't know the truth behind it but it might explain the unique flavor.

From the list I'll choose Mcdonalds fries, but my favorite is Arbys curly fries.

What NY fries have you been to? To me they taste like nothing.

Anyway, if home made fries don't count, then it's easily McDonald's. It's not even close.

Edit: actually, I like Costco fries the most.

I respectfully disagree. Five Guys are one of the best, but are also the greasiest.
