Subject: Favourite Meat

Written By: GoodRedShirt on 02/15/08 at 11:40 pm

For those who love meat, what's your favourite? Up to 2 options allowed. I listed the most common (in New Zealand at least), but you may select other.

I loves me a steak, be it from a steer or from Bambi.  (Go ahead and shoot that turdy-point-buck, dude, I want that ten-pointer, because any deer can make venison burgers or sausage, but the younglings taste so much gawddamn better!).

And I loves me chicken.  And I still haven't mastered duck confit worth a damn, but by Dobbs, I love it at the restaurant.  (And even when my own duck a l'orange turns out to be mediocre, the fat in the bottom of the pan roasts my potatoes and fries my pancakes for a month!)

But as the Macc Lads have sung in No Sheep 'Til Buxton!, it's all about "Sheep! Sheep! Nothin' but sheep!".

In lieu of that, I went with pork.  So versatile.  The wonderful magical animal that brings us spare ribs, ham, bacon -- also known as "nature's candy".  Hard to beat.  But you ain't 'ad a sheep.

Lamburgers:

1) 1lb ground lamb.
2) 1lb ground beef.
3) 6-8 cloves of garlic, freshly crushed.
4) Spices: salt, pepper, one small yellow onion finely-chopped, rosemary, oregano, paprica, whatever you'd do in a regular hamburger.
5) Sheep spices: Add a pinch (barely 1/4 tsp) of mint leaves if you've got 'em.
6) Optional: 1/2 cup bread crumbs, one egg.
7) Bonus: Buncha grated cheese.  Mozzarella, Jack, sharp Cheddar, goat, whatever!

Step 1:
Mix all of the above (but not the cheese) by hand.  Form into eight 1/4-pound (more like 1/3-pound with the extras) globs.  Each glob makes one burger.  Or for bonus points...

Step 2:
Split each glob into two mini-globs.  Form each mini-glob into a skinny fast-food-sized burger.

Step 3:
For bonus points, grab a small pile of that cheese (item 7) and drop it onto one skinnyburger.

Step 4:
Slap the other skinnyburger on top of the first skinnyburger.  Form back into one proper burger, with an inner layer of sealed cheese.

Step n:
Grill those bastards.

You'll end up with juicy garlic-fueled lamburgers that are as tasty with your favorite wine as they are with your favorite beer.

Pork and beef. Baby back ribs and T-Bones... where's the drool smiley?  :P :P

FooBar, I like sheep too... any animal that you can make both condoms and bagpipes out of are cool in my book. I like lambchops once a year or so, but your recipe looks so good.

Let us not split hairs but....the meat of a sheep a year or young is generally known as lamb whereas anything older is mutton. :)

I can't beat your one-liner (other than to remind you that "pork", unlike "chicken" and "duck", is the only word for meat that can be used as a verb with positive connotations), but seriously -- if you dig lamb chops, do my lamburger recipe.  Ground lamb can be found these days at most retail chain supermarkets.  It not only makes great burgers, it also makes a great sheep-flavored bolognese/meat sauce.

I picked beef and Pork too.... I love T-Bone and Porter House!

I eat a lot of chicken and almost selected it but just saying the word BACON makes me http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii91/hope_faith777/drool.gif so I picked pork!  Plus I love pork chops....and ham!

With the exception of lamb I like all the choices given, It just depends on the mood I'm in.

There are other exceptions; I prefer pork ribs to beef ribs. I'll eat any type of beef  but not veal
and if I'm at a pig roast I'll eat the cracklin' before I'll eat the meat.

I picked "other": ALL, although we don't really buy a lot of beef because it is expensive. Duck I will eat if it is Peking duck or in jook, otherwise I can't stand it. I love lamb, but it is so rich and fatty, that we don't buy it a lot. Seafood is awesome, but only when I get home to California, or else it isn't worth a damn. So we usually stick to chicken, pork, ground turkey, and farmed Tilapia (hey, I need SOME form of seafood, even if it does taste like crap :D).

*eta: And venison....I haven't found around here, although I love it.*

Heh, no wonder I couldn't find them here. Great finds, and thanks!

Glad you guys liked the sheep joke despite the grammar error...  :D

Good to see some votes for seafood in here as well.

As for runners up, I will select turkey and ground beef.

I like fish, too...but it really isn't a meat, though.

I've just come out of a 9 yr vegetarian phase. What I'm getting back into is fish on a big scale and on occasions I love my sausage / ham etc.

Chicken first, cooked in any format.

Fish second, especially with chips.

Thirdly pork.

All my choices are all delicious as Sweet and Sour.

I can't just pick two. I like:
Chicken/Turkey
Pork/Ham/Bacon (I'm such a good Jewish girl, aren't I?  ;) )
Seafood-well shellfish-don't care for regular fish-except tuna.
Venison-Moose meat is delicious-melts in your mouth.
Beef I could actually give or take. I do like it but it is not my favorite.

Don't like lamb.

I voted chicken and beef. I'd never eat mutton or venison though because they sound weird. Duck is also quite tasty.
