Subject: Salad!

Written By: Red Ant on 06/27/08 at 1:02 am

We've had a topic on salad dressing, but it seems salad itself has gone overlooked... tossed to the side, so to speak.  ;)

Do you like salad? What do you like in your salad?

Me, I love it, with iceberg lettuce, lots of ripe tomatoes, cucumber and green pepper. If I'm feeling particularly adventurous, I'll add in a little fresh chopped garlic, homemade bacon bits, freshly graded cheese and maybe sunsflower seeds and dried raspberries.

I like a Caesar salad every once in a while, especially when I get the chance to go to Olive Garden.

MMMmmm salad. :)

I can't eat peppers and I HATE celery but most other salady stuff is good so i tend to make it with whatever is in the fridge! Can't eat too much cucumber but you can never have too many tomatoes.

Love salad.

I'm kind of a kitchen sink kind of girl.  Whatever I find in the fridge goes in the salad.  Mostly though, I aim to put darker green lettuce (like Romaine) or maybe Spinach leaves.  Cucumbers, grape tomatos, button mushrooms.  Rarely do I put cheese in my salad (when I'm making them at home) I'd rather have tons of veggies instead.  But I'm not gonna turn down cheese if I find it in a salad at a restaurant.  ;D

On salad bars, I love to put "unusual" stuff in my salad like: chick peas, green peas, occasionally pepperoni (if it's there) but I tend to stay away from meat on the salad bar.  I never used to put them in my salad, hubby introduced me to chow mein noodles, and they are tasty, but seem kinda fattening being fried(?)

I feel fancy when I get a salad with lettuce, but also has fruit in it (like Strawberries), I don't even know why I consider that fancy schmancy.  ;D

At the risk of sounding totally one dimensional......I like my salad with a big burned slab of meat in the middle!  ;)

I LOVE salads! I like to use lettuce, cheese, black olives, mild pepper rings, oriental noodles, croutons, and sunflower seeds. Yummy!

My favorite dressings are: balsamic vinaigrette, french, and ranch.

I also love Caesar salads!!

I love salad...especially the kind made with Romaine lettuce...

Caesar Salad is a favorite of mine...but as for a basic salad I normally use Romaine lettuce, Japanese cucumbers (the kind you don't have to peel!), carrots, red onion, mushrooms and cherry (or grape) tomatoes... :D

I'll eat almost any of the usual stuff in a salad.  Can't stand chick peas in it though.

Caesar Salad is my favorite but at the salad bar or at home the salad goes like this:

Lettuce, romaine when available and very little used, it takes up too much space for the good stuff.
Jersey Tomatoes in the summer, cherry tomatoes any other time. Carrots, bell pepper, jalepeno pepper,
celery, cucumber, red onion, hard boiled egg, sharp cheddar cheese and pepperoni topped with Caesar
or Russian Dressing.

Chicken Caesar salad is one of my favourites. I also like my home made tuna steak salad.

On Wednesday evening, I went to the Slug and Lettuce pub in Muswell Hill with my Key Worker Linda and a group of fellow housemates. I had a baby-sized Tuna, Lime and Coriander Fishcake salad. It was cute and really delicious and I may have it again in future.

I LOVE salads. I love just about anything on them but my least favorite item in a salad is lettuce. We usually make our salads with spinach. I'm also not big on croutons-but will eat them. Otherwise, pretty much any veggie. Sometimes we will put some apples in.

And Ken's dressing-most of them (as long as it isn't Blue Cheese or Honey Dijon  8-P 8-P 8-P). My favorite is:

I like croutons in my salad.

I used to not like them; perhaps I thought they were too crunchy for use in salad...but I eventually came to like them. Sometimes the salad dressing might soften them up a little bit. :)

New York is probably the company name.

Yep, it would appear so, based on how it's drawn.

But they obviously have a recipe for "Texas toast" croutons. ;)

I eat salad on the side of most pastas with just cheese and dressing.  But I do make big salads by themselves with a lot of things mixed in.  I use mostly ranch.

Beneficial About Celery

If you have become accustomed to thinking about celery as a crunchy, low-cal vegetable but not a key part of your health support, it is time to think again. Recent research has greatly bolstered our knowledge about celery's anti-inflammatory health benefits, including its protection against inflammation in the digestive tract itself. Some of the unique non-starch polysaccharides in celery—including apiuman—appear especially important in producing these anti-inflammatory benefits. (Unlike starchy polysaccharides that provide plants with a way to store simple sugars, these non-starch polysaccharides in celery help provide this vegetable with its unique structure and are not made from simple sugars but rather from pectins.)

That looks like Heaven in a bowl. I love pasta salad, but I use a Kraft boxed one because I don't cook from scratch if I don't have to.

This is my favorite and I'd have it all to myself because my dad refused to touch it. LOL.

It is. Literally I think all you do is boil everything in the box and mix the dressing with mayo and toss it together. I pickedit up one day to go with some baked pork chops, loved it ever since.

Here is my ideal salad :
Shredded lettuce
Shredded cheddar cheese
Shredded Colby jack cheese
Shredded carrots
Diced tomatoes
Sliced cucumbers
Thinly shredded/cut turkey
Pepperoni slices
Sunflower seed kernals
Bacon bits
Buttered croutons with no garlic

I generally have an even layer of everything but with a lot of cheese. For dressing I usually use ranch. Obviously There are variations at times but this is what I prefer.

That about tops it (pun intended!)
