I used to love Marathon bars.  They were these long (I want to say at least a foot long) braided bars of chocolate and caramel. I haven't seen those in years.  I just found out they still make Clark bars and got one the other day.

A few discontinued chocolate bars I can think of include those Wonka bars that were available on the market to coincide with the release of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.' These included Whipple Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delight and Nutty Crunch Surprise. I loved those bars.

Also, I haven't seen certain Cadbury's Dairy Milk bars such as Mint Chips and Orange Chips lately.

Not really candy or gum, but O'Grady's Potato Chips.  They were rippled chips that were really thick

1970s.  I got a bubble gum that was shaped like a record.  It came in a mini record cover, that looked like a full-sized record.  Mine was Blondie's "Heart of Glass" and the lyrics were written on the inside of the sleeve.  I have NO idea what they were called.

Not only are they discontinued, they are banned due to the fact that it sets a very bad example for children.

Here's an article about the candy cigarette ban.

I hadn't thought of Gatorade gum since my basketball playing days in high school.  Coach had an ice cream bucket full of the gum always set out for practices and games.  Encouraged us to chew the stuff, said it would help replenish us.  I thought it tasted like crap, but dutifully chewed it during practice, but only would chew it when I actually got intp the ball game.

The Seven up bar I miss.  That was a great candy bar.

Subject: Re: Discontinued Candy & Gum

The Seven Up bar was the best.  A candy bar sectioned into seven different pieces, with seven different fillings.  Jelly and caramel sections are the ones I remember.  Others in there might have been fudge, a nut filled section, probably nougat, things you'd find in an assorted box of chocolates.  I think they came in both dark chocolate and milk chocolate, I say I think because I remember getting a Seven Up bar one time that tasted different from what I usually got and thinking the chocolate was darker.  Long time ago this was the mid 70's so maybe I'm thinking of something else, but definitely remember the Seven Up bar being seven different chocolate in one.  I'm sure if Forrest Gump would have ever have had one, he would have enjoyed it.  ;D

Right now I miss the Kit Kat Chunky Peanut Butter bar. The last time I had one was last October when I could buy 2 or 3 bars of the Duo version for 99p from my local discount store. The oringinal Kit Kat Chunky bar, which first hit the shelves in 1999, is still available and last year Kit Kat Chunky Caramel was launched.

A lot of this stuff I gave up after I had to start paying my own dentist bills, but I have a few remarks on the above posts:
http://www.inthe00s.com/smile/13/laughing8.gif

I still see Charleston Chews, but I don't think the strawberry or banana flavors are still in circulation.

Now & Later: Eat 'em now, pick 'em out of your teeth later.  Those were totally nasty, and even in worse on a cold day.

O'Grady's were definitely tasty, especially the Au Gratin variety.  They were the first "gourmet" potato chips I remember.

Jolly Ranchers were one of my dad's favorites.  I never liked them.  They tasted liked they couldn't decide if they were sweet or sour.

Watchamacallits never disappeared, though you might not notice them because of the the dust coating.

Gatorade Gum made my entire mouth pucker and my eyes run.  Icky.

If you see anybody over the age of 12 with a sheet of Dots, he's probably peddling LSD.

We used to buy candy cigarettes in the seventies, but they were merely sticks of confectioners sugar with a spot of red dye on the tip.  Karma to Christie Marie for the "Just Like Dad" pic.  ROTFLMAO!

Is Pud bubblegum still around?  Pud was a poor man's Bazooka Joe.  Then there was Chinese Fortune gum.  Haven't seen that stuff in a while.

Boston Baked Beans, Mary Janes, Smarties, Mint Juleps, etc. harken back to the "penny candy" days.  You still see those in New England tourist towns that have a mock "general store," perhaps called "Ye Olde Yankee Shoppe" or some b.s.

Is there anybody out there who still eats Twix?
Nooooo!
Or bloody old packets of Buttons?
I gave 'em up when I was six!
I hope your teeth are rotten!

Candy Cigarettes.

File under: What were they thinking?

But, yeah, I remember buying candy cigarettes.  The ones we used to get were made out of chalky confectioners sugar.  Kinda lame.

Candy cigarettes are not actually prohibited in most states.  Concerned parents have succeeded in pressuring retailers out of carrying them.  Sometimes the market works!

I'm in favor of teaching kids a lesson: Sell candy cigarettes WITH the commensurate level of tax on the frikkin' REAL cigarettes!  Think you might want to pay 89 cents for Lifesavers, kid, or do you want to shell out your entire allowance for those chocolate Marlboros!
