Subject: Who Will Win Super Bowl XXXVI?

Written By: Indy Gent on 11/26/01 at 07:51 p.m.

Now that my team the Colts are unofficially out of the race, who do you think will go to and win the Super Bowl next year? It's never too early to predict the winners? Also, who's your choice for the BCS champion?
America's choice: Oakland and St. Louis :-/
National champion: Miami 8)

That's 'cause they cut Troy Aikman.  But then again he was suffering too many concussions and the Cowboys thought he was washed up and let him go; he retired after that…  But of all the good players remaining, Emmitt Smith was thought to be falling down the list of all-time rushers because it seemed he was getting negative yardage in every game this year…

I believe the real reason was because Jerry Jones kept tweeking the nerves of the staff and players until he realized he had molded a losing team. The offensive line suffered after Nate Newton left and Mark Tunei died. The crazy draft picks in recent years didn't help any. So Jerry on the sidelines isn't going to give the 'boys a Super Bowl ring. :P

Yep, Smith is going nowhere fast. According to "NFL.com", he is tied for 25th in the league in rushing yards so far this season, w/ a mere 487 yards on 132 carries (a meager 3.7 avg.). And not a single TD, either - making him the player w/ the most yards w/o yet getting in the end zone...

Nowadays, it seems so many sports figures get over-hyped after stringing together two or three really good seasons, and then quickly fall from those lofty heights that the media takes them to - and Smith is definitely one of those, IMO...

I change my mind somewhat on the AFC opponent in the Super Bowl. I think Pittsburgh will win it all if Jerome Bettis is 100% back from his injury. Oakland can also make it. But Rich Gannon is known to blow the big games, and they need home field advantage throughout the playoffs. I still think the Rams are a lock in the NFC, especially if Da Bears hold on against Green Bay in the Central. The Packers are the only NFC team who can play toe-to-toe with St. Louis  :-/

well.. since I'm from Massachusetts.. I'd have to say the Patriots!!!

but I'm a realist, and realize that even though they're in the play-offs, they'll most likely get knocked out pretty quickly.. Brady is a backup QB, and he's not really that great.. Bledsoe never got along with Pete Carrol, and we all know he's long gone..

I believe the Patriots coach is Bill Belichek. Pete Carroll's at USC (where his team got its collective butt kicked by Utah in the Vegas Bowl 10-6 :)). But neither Drew Bledsoe or Terry Glenn has gotten along with Belichek, who should be Coach Of The Year solely because 1) there was nobody that would  be construed as talent before the regular season  :-/and 2) because of the two lickings they gave the Colts while Edgerrin James was still active. :'(

If the Rams don't turn the ball over, no one is going toe-to-toe with them.

you're correct... I'm behind the times again.. Pete Carrol was the coach before Belichek.. at least I'm pretty sure he was  ::)

I haven't been following that closely the past year or two.. but considering how badly the team started off the season, it's a total miracle they even made the playoffs this year.. about mid-season they were talking about "wild card" possabilities being a long shot.. my brother is the sports nut in my family, so I'm sure if he read my last post he'd be rolling on the floor..

Um, whatever (???) It looks more and more like the Raiders are gonna blow it again. The Rams look stronger and stronger every time I see them on T.V. But the Colts will get better next year. And if they have any chance of affording Steve Spurrier to coach, they could win Super Bowl XXXVII. ;)

Now that we know who's in it, I'm going with the Rams.

One other thing.  When the Philadelphia quarterback threw that interception that sent the Rams to the Super Bowl, what did he say?  "Dag-McNabb-it!"

Third time in 16 years for the Patriots.  Home team, gotta root for them.  Maybe third time's the charm?

And it looks like the third blowout loss for the Pats in a New Orleans Super Bowl. All they really did was save Pittsburgh from a Rams rout. No one can stop Marshall Faulk. He'll be the difference in this one. Final score: St. Louis 38, New England 6. :'(

Hey, I can dream, can't I?  No one expected the Pats to get this far, and no one expected them to beat the Steelers.  It's possible, however remotely, that they can do it.  I'm eternally hopeful.  My fingers are crossed.  And the chance of them winning has got to be better than my chance of winning the lottery.

Well depends. The Rams are a 15 point favorite the last time I looked. If Tom Brady doesn't play, look for the odds to blow up to about slim and none. :(
