Subject: Celebrity Report!

Written By: Junior on 01/18/02 at 03:29 p.m.

At my school today, everyone was totally FREAKING OUT because someone from "Tiana", a show on Nickelodeon, was roaming the halls at our school. Now, I had only seen the show a couple times (thanks to my Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network loving brother), but still was excited about meeting a celeb. Unfortunately, I didn't even SEE her.  :'( I heard she was hot too! A buncha my friends saw her though...good for them. "Maritza", the 'bully' from the show "Tiana" (who is a MUCH nicer person in reality), is actaully the cousin of a Special Needs/EC teacher who works at our school.

Anyway, my point is: Have you ever had any encounters with any musicians, actors/actresses, etc.?

I met Frank Shuster, of Wayne & Shuster fame, once back in 1994.  He just died this week.  (I realise he's Canadian, but Wayne & Shuster were on The Ed Sullivan Show more often than any other act.)

I met and had a few outings and dinner with Everett McGill of "Silver Bullet" fame. I had dinner with Moses Gunn (The Hotel Keeper from "The Shining") too. Had a chat and a cocktail with Clint Eastwood. All these encounters happened in the same time-frame during their filming of the movie "Heartbrake Ridge". There was a monstrously huge football player who was part of the cast with whom I spoke. I forgot his name! I am old!!!  :o

I also met Tina Yothers of "Family Ties" fame, Meatloaf, Paul Newman, had a brush with Madonna and dined in the same restaurant as Christy Brinkley and Billy Joel (back in the day when they were still married, of course). I also met Michael Bolton's daughter at a dance club. I believe her name's Nicole, though my memory is a bit foggy. We did hang out that night and she was really nice. That's all I remember right now.  :)

Oh, by the way....

Thanks for the memories!!!

We, as a family, have met Carol Decker many many times. 'Twould make sense really. We come from the same area of the world, and anyway, she's just been on a tour of her home town of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England, and has just passed 600 yards away from my house... The only other famous person I am aware of, is Kevin Seabury (he plays for Shrewsbury Town Foot-soccer Club) and he came to our school where he, too, resided back in 1989.

I think you mean Flip Wilson. I haven't had any encounters with famous people, but some of my family members have. My grandfather was in the Army with Elvis (they were in Germany together, I think), my grandmother (when she was a young girl), her mother, and her sister were picked up by "Pretty Boy" Floyd when they were hitchiking, my mom met Wynonna Judd, and my dad met Ritchie Valens' brother Bob and was invited to his house.

I met Marina Sirtis at a "Star Trek" convention. I have also met John Schlitt and Louie Weaver of Petra, Margaret Becker, Rick Cua, and Cindy Morgan, among others. I met the members of DC Talk back when they were opening for DeGarmo & Key. I had the pleasure of meeting Thuy Trang (Trini, the original Yellow Ranger of "Power Rangers") a few years ago. Sadly, she was killed in a car crash late last year.

I always wanted to be a flight attendant so I could meet some celebrities.  I bet I couldn't handle the jerks that are on flights though.  Bad temper.

Thanks for filling in some of those names.  The Christopher Atkins one was driving me crazy!  I met him in LA at a movie premier.  SUPER nice guy!  I have a picture of us together somewhere - I look like crap in it.   ::)
Flip Wilson - wasn't very personable.
Everyone else was very gracious though.

Marilyn Manson and his band came into a bar and started drinking with me and a whole bunch of friends one night just after they got to Australia on their first tour here a few years back. That was kinda cool.

:o Wow, lots of celebrity sightings out there!  My own are not as many but IMO, pretty cool.  I met Van Halen backstage at a concert about 10 years ago (circa Sammy Hagar).  My sister in law had won a prize from a radio station and at the last minute her husband decided he didn't want to go - GASP!  Anyway, he was kicking himself later because we had backstage passes and frontrow seats!  I also met Vince Gill in a hotel giftshop.  All were very decent guys!

Met George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Stars on a plane from Charlotte NC to Los Angeles.  Now I know the true meaning of P-Funk!!   ;)

Met Moby at an autograph signing...signed the jacket of my 12" single of "Feeling So Real" and saw that I had the BPM's labeled on the sleeve already.  So we talked about DJing & music.  He drew that bug-eyed caricature on the jacket, and I named our next cat after him.

Had a brush with Carrottop at a local nightclub.  He wanted to hear Edwyn Collins "A Girl Like You."

My brother got to meet Drake Hogeston(sp?) at the World of Wheels in Tucson, Az.  And I was told by my mom that I am related to the actor Jose Ferrer, because my last name is Ferrer. And I also was told by my mom that I am also related to Alan Thicke, but only my marriage. And I went to high school with the football player Rodney Peete.

You know, Jonman, I was just going to ask if you were Canadian!  I know all of those bands and have seen most of them like 3 or 4 times - April Wine was my first real concert back in 1982! They're a staple at the classic rock festivals here in Canada!

The only person I've met is the guy who played Chis Theodopolopodus from the british sitcom 'Birds of a feather'. He was at a wedding when I was a Bridesmaid a few years back. He acually carried autographed pictures on him, with him and his co-stars, thought nothing of it then, but now i just think how pretentious!

You must be a Christian to meet so many Christian artists. :D. Also I'm sorry to hear about Thuy's death. :'( Not everyone can have to luck that Amy Jo Johnson (The Pink Ranger)had after the original Rangers left. But Trini lives in reruns.

Take off! You're a hoser too? That's cool eh!! Heheee...I'm in Vancouver...and yes I see April Wine quite often around here...Headpins are together still and playing the "where are they now" circuit but of course without Brian "Too Loud" MacLeod how good can they be? I also heard rumour of a Toronto reunion a few years back but it never happened....I saw Sheron Alton on TV back a couple of years and she's completely grey now!!

Hee hee! Good day, eh? I'm in Regina where there seems to be a disproportionate number of 80s fans, which suits me just fine. Most of the good ol' Canadian bands drop into Regina frequently - in fact, Prism was just here last week!  They're always good to see!

I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior.  I believe in God, I pray and try to live my life right.  I am not perfect, but no one is.  I am a flirt, but that doesn't make me any less of a Christian does it?

Yes, I am a Christian, although I am far from perfect. I don't go to church that often. I don't read the Bible like I should. And I lie on occasion to save myself. Not to mention I only practice what I preach the things that are easy for me. But I don't condemn others who profess to be Christians, even though I, too, doubt their sincerity. Jesus does that for us, and He watches out for everybody.

Thank you for answering that for me.  Your honesty is refreshing.  I understand about doubting others, I live in an area where one religion is predominant.  I know of alot of people who look down on those that don't share the same beliefs, yet they live the same as those that aren't that particular faith.  Yes, Jesus does watch out for all of us. :)
