Subject: Overplayed Songs

Written By: lebeiw15 on 05/01/02 at 10:49 p.m.

What are some of the songs you think are waaaayy too overplayed right now?

-"Adrienne" and "Wherever You Will Go" by the Calling
-"Can't Get You Out Of My Head" by Kylie Minogue (can't get this song out of my head..)
-"Don't Let Me Get Me" by Pink and "In the End" by Linkin Park (but that's a good thing!!!)

Remember when "My Heart Will Go On" was on the radio evvvvery 3-4 hours??  :( Bad memories..

"It's Been Awhile"-Staind (not long enough)
"Everywhere"-Michelle Branch
They're already overplaying the new Vanessa Carlton song (A Thousand Miles) and her album hasn't even been released. :o

Singles Remain on the pop charts way to long nowadays. Take a look at this example:

in the 70's the longest single was "December 1963 (oh what a night) which lasted 54 weeks, and this includes 27 weeks in 1994
In the 80's It was "tainted love" which lasted 43 weeks

In the 90s It was "One Headlight" which lasted 70 weeks

Around 96 billboard change the way they do thier charts this caused the singles to last longer.  Im sick of radio stations and VH1 claming a songs is new when its already 2 months Old.

Actually, it was in '91. But by blaming Billboard, you're shooting the messenger. In a nutshell, the real problem is that U.S. radio has grown wa-a-ay too conservative since the late '80s... :(

Nickelback's, 'How You Remind Me' is so overplayed here, but it's a good song, so I don't care too much!

Written By: DJ Midas on 05/02/02 at 07:31 a.m.

I don't listen to current Top 40 much nowadays, but when I do, here's what I usually hear:

Nickelback - "How You Remind Me" (tired of it)
Linkin Park - "In The End" (like this one)
Kylie Minogue - "Can't Get You Out of My Head" (I'm about over it)
Alanis Morrisette - "Hands Clean"
Train - "Drops of Jupiter" and "She's On Fire"
Pink - "Get The Party Started"

Subject: Re: Overplayed Songs

Written By: Junior on 05/02/02 at 03:37 p.m.

Most of these are pretty good, but:

"Can't Get You Out Of My Head" Kylie Minogue
"Be Like That" 3 Doors Down
"In The End" Linkin Park
"How You Remind Me" Nickelback
"Get The Party Started" Pink
"Hey Baby" No Doubt
"Blurry" Puddle Of Mudd
"Youth Of The Nation" P.O.D
"Sugar High" ???
"Jaded" Aerosmith (and this is song is about a year old)
"All-Star" Smash Mouth (even older than "Jaded")
"Rainy Dayz" Mary J Blige & Ja Rule
"Crazy" Musiq
"Underneath Your Clothes" Shakira
"Oops (Oh My)" Tweet
"U Got It Bad" Usher
"It's Been Awhile" StainD
"Wherever You Will Go" The Calling
"Don't Let Me Get Me" Pink
"Hands Clean" Alanis Morrisete
and "Drops Of Jupiter" Train

Subject: Re: Overplayed Songs

Written By: lebeiw15 on 05/02/02 at 05:46 p.m.

"Sugar High" is by Jade Anderson.

Also.. The new song by Marc Anthony.  I got sick of it after the first time.   :P  It also sounds like a song Ricky Martin would do, which would only make it worse.  "Blurry" by Puddle of Mudd is too overplayed, but it's a pretty good song.  And I am seriously tired of "Video" by India.Arie.

How about overplayed commercials?  Anyone heard the "Wendy's Late Night" jingles?  :(  (Played at least once every hour here.)

LOL.  When I first heard the song in NYC on WKTU in January I knew it was going to be hot.  I'm pretty much tired of it now - that and the only decent mix on the U.S. 12" Maxi-single is the radio version IMO - the others just don't cut it.

I did. Radio stations are over 50% responsible for killing songs in my book, just by sheer overplaying.

I'm already tired of Sheryl Crow's "Soak Up The Sun". It may be a good album, but that song being played repeatedly makes me not want to listen to it.

Subject: Re: Overplayed Songs

"Soak Up the Sun" is another one.   :-/ And Nelly's new one is getting really, really old even though it's really, really new.

"In the End" by Linkin Park. I really don't like them. Whenever it comes on, I feel like throwing my boom box out the window...but then I realize that I couldn't listen to Nirvana if the thing broke.

"Fat Lip" by Sum41. How dare this pop play on my alternative rock station? ~fume~

"My Sacrifice," "Higher" by Creed. They play constantly. It's by Creed. 'Nough said.

Although I actually like "In The End" (Linkin Park) and "How You Remind Me" (Nickelback), they are waaaay overplayed.

I like the Kylie Minogue song, but then, I only listen to the radio when I'm in the car or by hubby's garage playing basketball these days.

You know, I am so sick to death of anything and everything by Creed that I won't listen to songs by them that I actually liked anymore.  PLEASE!!!  Stop the torture!!  They're good, but I don't want to hear them every 22.34 minutes.   ::)

Do You Feel Like We Do/Peter Frampton
Pink Floyd....All of thier stuff
Springsteen...again, all
Bob Dylan...Like him or not...I do as a songwriter but Not as a singer
....I'd better stop there as I still don't know if this will be appropriatley placed :-/

Any song in the Top 40.  We have a station here in Columbia (SC) that plays "Contemporary Hits".  I believe they have a 60 CD collection to choose from; the current Top 40 and #1s from past Top 40s (but only 10 years back).

But i can narrow it down.

Any song by:
Nelly
Pink
Michelle Carlton (this is really one person)
98 N'Sync Boys (this is really one group)
Britnica Moorera (the MEGA teen)

Since I've been in college, I have not listened to the radio at all.  I listen to my own music in my dorm, I don't watch MTV, and I can't listen to the radio in my car because they won't let me have a car during my first year.  And even so, Eminem's "Lose Yourself" is freakin' EVERYWHERE.  It's ubiquitous.  And I like this song; I can't even imagine what it would be like if I didn't.  The song is inescapable.  I've heard it so many times in the past few months that fifty years from now when I'm old and grey, and I hear this song, I will be instantly transported back to my first year in college.
