Subject: Comic Genius

Who do you think is more of a comic genius out of Mike Myers or Jim Carrey?

Personally, I would go with Mike Myers, because he has more control over himself and his acting than Jim Carrey does.  Jim Carrey kind of goes off the deep end sometimes, while Mike Myers impersonations and voices are amazing.  Has anyone seen Mike Myers be Mick Jagger on SNL, while Jagger was Keith Richards?  Very, very funny.

I love Myers' Wayne's World 1 and 2, So I Married an Axe Murderer, Austin Powers 1 and 2, 3 looks a bit suss from previews.

Anyway, who would you pick?

Hi Sharona

I would go for Mike Myers, although it would be close.  For me his humour is a bit more subtle, although obviously Jim Carrey's persona leads him more towards the outrageous.

What I do like about Jim Carrey however, is that whilst he has many of the hallmarks of Jerry Lewis, he usually picks his time better to pull the silly face, make silly voice, etc, but doesn't overdo it.

Jerry Lewis has always grated on my nerves as I felt he spent far too much time on simply sounding and looking silly - I didn't feel that there was any substance underneath though  >:(

Mike Myers has demonstrated himself to be adaptable to a number of roles, and let's not forget the involvement he has had with his films in an off-screen capacity.

Mike Myers, definitely.

Austin Powers in Goldmember doesn't look nearly as good as the first two movies did, but I still think it will turn out very good.

The prosecutor lady threw a word at Jim Carrey in one of the goof scenes at the end of Jim Carrey's movie "Liar, Liar": I think the word was "Over-Actor". IMO, that says it all.

Jim Carrey was totally awesome in "In Living Color". In a couple of his movie personas, however, he more than just bordered on bad taste (Think "Me, Myself and Irene"). Horrible movie!  :P IMO, of course.

Mike Myers' acting and humor are definitely more subtle. I think I enjoy that a bit more. So I'll go with Mike Myers.

Jim Carrey seems to have been trying hard to become a more controlled persona or at least an Oscar consideration (Think "Man On The Moon" and "The Truman Show"). I enjoyed the latter. "Man On The Moon" was one of those movies I consider a waste of my precious time. I'll never get those 2 hours back.  >:(

I think they are both very talented, and I have liked many movies from them both.  I probably prefer Mike Myers, at least for MOST of his work, ("So I Married An Axe Murderer" is one of my very favorites) but at the same time I think Jim Carrey shows he can do serious work, which I haven't seen as much of in Mike Myers. (Okay, I did see "Studio 54", so I know he can do it, but...) Personally, I don't like "potty humor", which seems to be one of Jim Carrey's specialities.  But, on the other hand, I think the Austin Powers movies are the same way.... ::)
Basically, they both have good points and bad points--I think there is plenty of room for them both in my movie collection!
How's that for a runaround answer?!  ;D

Mike Meyers.

I liked Jim Carey in "In Living Color", but his humor is not my favorite type...lets just say that I don't really laugh at fart jokes.  Besides that, Wayne is my hero. ;)

I'd say Mike Myers too. I loved all of his characters on SNL. Especially Linda Richman and Wayne! IMO, he's so much funnier than Jim Carey. I agree with you Hairspray, Carey has a tendency to overact. Not that there isn't a movie or two of Carey's that I like. If given the choice between a Myers movie or a Carey movie, I'd go with Myers everytime!!
