Subject: Cool Metallica message board

Written By: Eddie on 05/21/02 at 09:19 p.m.

If any of you like Metallica, this is a board I post at all the time, and it is very cool. www.xsorbit1.com/users/Stigma/index.cgi  It's always cool to get new members there, and all you guys seem cool. Oh yeah, I go by Osculum there.

I didn't know where to post this, so I posted it here since that board was started in the 2000's.  http://home.enter.vg/rog19/smileys/cheers.gif

I used to like Metallica.  Then came Lars and his battle with Napster.  A band which had in the past ENCOURAGED swapping their music and passing it around.  very disappointing.  Now, I listen to their music, but ONLY pirate it.  (Yeah, TB, I'm bad   :P).  And I pass it on every chance I get.  And beyond that I have nothing to do with Metallica.

Of course, this is just MY opinion...

Yeah, I pretty much agree with you. I still like them, but they went against a lot of things they originally stood for. Very odd if you ask me.

I agree with Thundervamp9.  Metalica, once one of the most popular rock bands in the world, made some big Mistakes in the 90's.  I like the music on Load, but thats where the problem started.  Reload? sounds a little commercial to me. a Bob Seager song?  Short Hair?  Garage days #14?  Kissing up to the record labels? Is this the same band we grew up with?

They sold-out in the 1990's. They were offered a whole lot of money, got it and liked it too much. So much so, that they even began to change their musical and writing style for a while in order to cater to a wider audience.

It all started with "Metallica" (the black self-titled album).
As much as I like it, it is indeed an album made for a wider range of audience.

So I guess no one is going to check out the board.  ;D Oh well, too bad.

That album was acceptable enough for MTV to invite them to play at their Video/Music awards ceremony that year!!! To see them in one of those was unheard of and quite surprising.

Look at it this way. The previous album was so progressive, and so intricate, that they had taken that direction as much as they could. They had to do a major overhaul, and it just so happened to come out at the right time. And sure, it is more accessable, but the point of that release was to bring top notch heavy metal to the mainstream, and I think they succeeded.

Ofcourse, this crap is my opinion, so who knows? I might be way wrong on the whole thing.

You're right and they did. For better or worse, right?  ;)

Well, I hate to think I started a trend towards people not wanting to go to your board.  heh heh.  It's just a part of my personal screwed-up beliefes system.  For more, see my debates on smoking.   ;D

I may check it out, but my personal feelings towards Metallica would prevent me from posting.  Too likely to start wars.

I think at first it worked, but then it backfired. My personal feeling is that they would have been better off if they didn't try and please every single person on earth. I mean, it was so popular that all the parents liked it too. It's almost as if they abandoned all the old fans and tried to please too many people. I still like the music, but I defiantely don't agree with some of the moves they've made.

Aww, don't worry about it. It's all good! But it ain't my board, I'm just a moderator there. The Big Cheese would be Stigma.  ;D

I used to be a big fan of Metallica but of course that all changed after they distroyed Napster.  In fact,  the first songs I downloaded off Napster were Metallica's.  As a result, I was banned from using Napster for a while  (until I found out how to get back on,  ;)) so....Death to Metallica.

Just my opinion...please take no offense.
