Subject: Lakers and the refs vs. Kings

Written By: Screwball54 on 05/31/02 at 11:43 p.m.

I Just finished watching the lakers/Kings game.  As long as I can remember I've hated the lakers.  My question is why do the refs love them so much?  Almost every call goes to the lakers.  This was apparently obvious in tonights game, If the Refs had called it fair, the lakers would have lost.

The reasons the Lakers get the calls is their a bigger market team than sacramento. I guess if the Lakers win the league earns more money because Los Angeles is a huge market.

If that's the case how do you explain the Malone/Stockton garbage that goes on year after year....seems like the refs are in the Jazz pockets as well >:(

yeah, I agree. The Kings got totally ripped off by the refs in game 6. If the game had been called properly, Sacramento would be getting ready to play New Jersey in the NBA finals right now.

The stats say otherwise. According to www.nba.com, in the first six games of the Lakers/Kings series, members of the Lakers have been assessed a total of 154 personal fouls, vs. only 143 for the Kings. However, the Kings have been hit w/ an additional 10 technical fouls, vs. only 5 for the Lakers. But even w/ those figured in, that still favors the Kings overall. So I don't think there's any favoritism going on here...

GO LAKERS!!! :-) :-) :-)

The Jazz lost 2 titles to the Bulls: A big market team with Michael Jordan and Scottie pippen at that time. The Jazz earned those trips to the NBA Finals and nobody gave them those trips.

The overall stats don't matter, If the lakers commited 300 personal fouls, yet they only called 154 that still isn't fair. plus the overall foul stats counts the last two minutes and we all know the intentional fouls that are commited then.

It's not that refs like them as much as NBA Commissioner David Stern and NBC Sports like them. The refs are just after job security, so they do what Stern tells them or they'll be on 5th Avenue. That is, they'll be ex-refs. And Phil Jackson has a way of hypnosis too. You know he's never lost a Game 6 or 7 in his life.  :(

I know that Stern and the league are also anti-ABA.  The announcers said the Nets had never won a championship in franchise history...no they did NOT say just in the nba....but in the papers yesterday there was a really thorough article on the Nets winning 2 ABA Championships with Doctor J. in 1974 & 1976. Red Aurbach once said of the ABA and thier struggles "Let 'em burn" well I feel just about the same about the "Brown-ball league"

I looks like the Lakers will win another NBA crown. Not that I don't think the Nets have a shot. It just that they don't have a shot against the Lakers, Commissioner Stern, the refs, NBC Sports, or Phil Jackson "mojo". I hope when ABC and ESPN take over the NBA braodcasting, the playing field will be a little more leveled. I'm not holding my breath though. :-/
