Subject: Your thoughts about this decade so far.

What do you think about this decade so far? Bad, Good, weird or just normal.

I think 9-11 immediately takes it out of the realm of normalcy.

From a personal stand point, It was pretty good before 9/11. It's bad now because I don't have a job.  from a world standpoint, If the 90's were good, than the 00's are bad, the begining of the 90's saw the end of the USSR, and the succesful liberation of Kuwait. This decade we've had 9/11, almost had nuclear war, and to top it off the Isreali conflict.

I don't think that youngsters growing up now will want to remember these first two years for the bad times. People who have only seen this decade, those less than two and a half years old, born at the turn of the third millennium will remember the good times, the fun times, and the times in their own lives which they enjoyed, not those on the television of what's happening in other countries. A child's mind is based on that only that he or she can draw interest from.

From a personal statement, the 00s have been a good decade. If it all ended tomorrow, I know that I have loved and lost, a feeling that we all have to face at some point in our lives.

Oh, and there's the small matter that Manchester United didn't win the Premiership this season, David Beckham's foot, Liverpool's yearly six-pointers over our team, and, happily, Brighton and Hove Albion's recent spell in the leagues. After nearly being relegated out such a short time ago, with practically no money in the bank, they're doing great. I think it's been a great few years for them!

People growing up now will not want to remember 9/11, that's for sure. I understand that it will be remembered by us, but not by those who have only two years of life experience behind them.

That's a tough question.  It has had it's bad moments (9/11, my grandfather's death), but for the most part it has been pretty good.  My life does not change much and I have just been raising my daughter, watching her change every day.  I think watching the transition from diapers and walkers to walking, talking, drawing, reading etc is what makes it wonderful.

The 00s were pretty similar to the 90s, which isn't saying much because the 90s pretty much sucked. The first WTC attack in 1994 was a harbinger of things to come in 2001. Unfortunately, I think a worse catastrophe than 9-11 may be yet to come. :(

The 90's didn't suck. The economy was pretty good in the late 90's. They were downpoints like the OJ Trial, Clinton scandal, Persain Gulf War, WTC in '94, and the Oklahoma City bombing. In the 80's you had the stock market crash in 87. You have something to look at downpoint and uppoint wise for every decade. Look at the 60's and that was a pretty depressing time. The 00's are not easy like the 90's were thats for sure but as long as you have a place to live in, a car to drive, and a job you're in a pretty good position. The 00's have seen downpoints like WTC, Enron and Tyco CEO's involed in scandals such as shredding documents, and not paying taxes.

Epic events and popular entertainment certainly do make for memorable decades.  As for myself, the personal choices I've made, however wise or foolish, form my recollections of a given decade, for the most part.
The 00's, thus far, are not what I'd call one of my better decades, but as always, that's subject to change.  For the country and the world I'd say this is a time of upheaval, nothing new to history, of which the outcome is uncertain.

u would have to say this decade has been pretty depressing.. it was great to bring in the new millenium of the year 2000.. everyone was looking to the future as technology, economic trends surged stronger than ever!

then a year later on Sept. 11, 2001, 19 guys with a death wish change history forever and hijack commercial planes, crashing them into landmarks and killing thousands of innocent americans. it is dubbed the worse attack on american soil ever, more so than pearl harbor some 50 odd years ago.

i hope the worst is behind us! by the end of the 00's we might have fonder memories...

The 80's had the challanger disaster, the 90's had the OJ Simpson trial, the 00's will be remembered for 9/11. ???

everytime I open up the newspaper something is always going on:

-cars crashing into buildings
-people drowning
-shootings
-hijackings
-murders
-deaths
-weapons
-killings

It's no fun reading the newspaper because it contains lots of negativity. But you know something,I read it anyway cause it keeps me busy all day long. -howard-(don't call me jammin'!) :D

The media have been even worse this year, which has made this decade seem more depressing then it should be.

Of personal significance, my nearly 11 year relationship with my girlfriend has come to an end as of last night and the pain cannot be described with mere words.  Could it be argued that I waited too long?  To answer my own question: everyone and everything has limits.
As I more-or-less stated above, your day/week/month/decade might be bite from a s**t sandwich, but nobody says that you gotta like it.

The lack of a ring, in my case, was not the only reason for the split and probably not the most important to either of us, Howard.  Airing all my dirty laundry to the world would be nothing short of pathetic.  All things said, I've got to blame myself for this one.

well,we together 5 years. We broke up in October of last year.I think their Family wanted me to marry her.I told her"We can't marry yet"!Back then, she was living with her Mother and she was attending a workshop and so was I.We don't have incomes. If I said that, she would get upset and walk away from me.Now,she lives in a residence for mentally disabled. She broke up with me cause she thought she was better than I was.So what If I live with my Father and Mother.I think she wanted to leave her Mother.I think they were both annoyed with each other at that time. -howard-
