Hey Goreripper

Nice thread !

I would have to agree with Springer and the Brady Bunch Hour, assuming that was one of those shows where they all made a comeback (except Jan I presume) and sang and danced and nauseated everyone ?

Of course not included in the list as it is US based, is our own pathetic offering from the 80's :

Hey Dad !

Well, while I can agree with many of those, I was bummed to see:

22. The Powers of Matthew Star (NBC, 1982-83)

I know I was pretty young, but I really liked that show!  Friday nights, "Powers of Matthew Star", then "Knight Rider", and rounding it all off with "Remington Steele".  To me, that was like a perfect night of tv!!  Shows what I know.. ::)

So sue me for being politically incorrect, but I cannot include Hogan's Heroes on this list. Albeit it wasn't the most tasteful or historically correct, but it was funny because it did portray Germans as buffoons and it had one of the most integrated casts of all time. One the other hand, I'm one of the rare people in America that believes "Will & Grace" should have been included here. Others I would pick
Survivor
The Fear Factor
All-Souls
Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (sorry Robert Urich fans)
Flamingo Road
Dynasty 2: The Colbys
Tony Orlando & Dawn (the most self-promoting show in history)
The Waverly Wonders and that other sitcom about roller derby queens with Rhonda Bates.
Open House
Full House
The male half of the "Dispierta America" morning show

Yeah I can't see how it was really that bad. I think shows should have been picked by how AWFUL they were, not how bad they look (PC-wise) in retrospect. I think Hogan's Heroes only real crime was the fact that it was basically the same episode, over and over again.  ;D

Note: If this were a worldwide list, I'd lobby for the inclusion of 'Love Thy Neighbour', for being both awful and non-PC.

Jerry Springer and ALL trash talk shows. Do people really live like that????? Geeze I hope not!! The reality tv shows in my view are definatly not entertaining like I want to marry a millionaire yuck! LOL must be pretty damn desperate and want your 15 min of fame to do that. People Funniest Home Videos. But yeah I do agree with the Brady Bunch feelings, the mother always seemed she was 'on' something LOL ... just picturing mom and dad on the show smokin a few. Yeah - I was telling someone at work about this the other day - they were born in the late 70's and as such had never even heard of it - and they were astounded by my description.

But whilst it was both awful and non-pc, it was an accurate portrayal of the bigotry that did, and undoubtedly in some quarters, still does exist....

Sabrina:The Teenage Witch is also overrated. I prefer the 70s cartoon.

OK... (Shows I've seen or familiar with)
From "TV Guide 50 Worst Shows" list...

"Barney & Friends" It's a kiddy show. Not meant for people over 6. Well, I remember dissing "Barney" when it first came out in the early 1990's.

"She's The Sheriff" Saw it on TV Land once and It was awfully lame. Bad acting, bad scripts, and makes "Step by Step" look well written like "Seinfeld"

"The Flying Nun" Sorry, but I prefer watching "Gidget" instead.  :D Well, "The Flying Nun" wasn't that bad compared to what's on tv right now. .  Some episodes were OK though, in my opinion. Even Sally Field regrets about being on this show. Atleast she's now a two time Academy Award winning dramatic actress.  :D

"The Tom Green Show" OK, atleast his 15 minutes of fame is already timed up. Two words: Hollywood Squares

"Homeboys In Outer Space" Really, really awful. Good thing I never watched the entire 1st episode in 1997.

"Unhappily Ever After" A blatant rip off of "Married...With Children" with a talking stuffed bunny voiced by an annoying comic.  :P

"Howard Stern" Too predictable and gets boring sometimes.

"Baywatch" The corniest beach drama I've ever saw.

"Who Wants To Marry A Multi Millionaire?" The wretched special that paved the way for "The Bachelor", "Joe Millionaire", "The Bachelorette", etc. Didn't tv execs. learned anything from this?

"Manimal" Yes, he does look like a member from "Cats".
I remember watching this mess on reruns from the Sci Fi Channel and it was quite dumb.

"The Chevy Chase Show" OK, he was funny on SNL, the "Vacation" movies, but not good of a talk show host.

"Baby Bob" Even "Baby Talk" was more worth watching. (Despite of Scott Baio being on the show) Not to mention the baby's voice creeped me out!

"Cop Rock" Imagine "Law and Order: The Musical".
Just awfully horrific!!! I can't believe Sheryl Crow was on that show. I've seen this on VH1 in the mid 1990's and I just can't describe how awful this was...  :P

"Celebrity Boxing" What happened to that funny MTV cartoon? Atleast it was funny & worth watching.

"The Brady Bunch Hour" Really tacky & good thing that Eve Plumb wasn't involved with this mess. I saw this horrid show on TV Land. Other bad "Brady" shows: "The Brady Brides" & "The Bradys".

"XFL" Only saw parts of it,but I strongly agree that it's really awful.

"The Jerry Springer Show" Enough said.  :P

Awful shows that aired after the "50 worst shows" list came out:
"The Pitts"
"Music Behind Bars"
"The Anna Nicole Show"
"The Sureal Life"
"That Was Then"
"Fastlane"
And all the tasteless reality shows...

"The Mandy Moore Show"

"Blossom"
"The Magic Hour"

You do have to realize that most shows before the 80s may have been awful. But, that was a time before cable, before vcrs, and before the internet when most people got about 4 network channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS) and maybe a couple of independent stations. There wasn't really too much choice on, so even though it may have been a terrible show, the ratings were up because the other networks were playing something even worse.  I do believe that some of these lists may have forgotten a few shows because there were some shows that were so awful that they were pulled before their 13 weeks were up and (thankfully) disappeared into oblivion.

"Haunted"?  never heard of it.

"Still Standing"- had potential, but I don't see it lasting too much longer.

"Good Morning Miami"- zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

"Emeril"- oh Mr. Emeril, love your cooking show, love your restaurant, but why oh why did you have to attempt a sitcom!?!

Just as well. It starred Matthew Fox of "Party of Five", another overrated show. In this one he plays a detective who gains the ability to read both the killer's and victim's minds. (Where have we seen this before? ::)) It replace "Buffy" on the WB after that show moved to UPN.

Shows I'm familiar with...

"Fastlane" A cheap third rate knock off of "Miami Vice".
Plus horrific acting & cheesy characters. Like if it were to be a parody of "Miami Vice". A very unfunny parody. :P

"Good Morning Miami" OK, I never saw an entire episode, but I found it very bland & none of the characters are interesting. Not to mention it was created by the same people who brought up "Will & Grace", another show I can't stand.

"Leap Of Faith" Supposedly network tv's answer to "Sex And The City". Minus charismatic characters & mediocre scripts. (The scripts were bad) Better off watching a commercial for dating sevices. Good thing this turkey got canned after a few episodes.

"Emeril" OK, best if to give one of The Food Network's popular chef a sitcom... WRONG!!!
For starters, his acting was wooden & the scripts were awful.
Good thing he kept his day job.

Well, I wonder why "Pink Lady...and Jeff" & "The Brady Bunch Hour" are out on DVD?  ::)
Both were shows that lasted less than 13 episodes.

BTW, I never rented/bought them. I saw "The Brady Bunch Hour" once on TV Land, but never saw "Pink Lady...and Jeff".
And would never watch it even out of curiosity.

And I've seen "The Flying Nun" on a marathon last year on The ABC Family Channel only because It was on  after the three hours of  "Gidget".
And I saw it out of curiousity because Sally Field is a great actress and wasn't familiar with the show. It was aired a couple of months before TV Guide released their "50 Worst" issue.
(Yes, I thought it was cheesy at the time...and still consider it cheesy now.)

I just checked out the TV Guide list, and I'm glad to say I don't recognize most of them....

Of the ones I do know of, only Hogan's Heroes and Flying Nun I disagree with.  Not necessarily because they were good shows, but because of the fond memories that I have with them.

I watched those two shows a lot with my dad when we had one-on-one time.  He worked two jobs to keep a roof over our heads so every second I had with him was precious, no matter how bad the stuff on tv was.

Someone mentioned Teletubbies as being a bad show.  I have to agreee, but only for people over the age of two.  Younger than that it is ok.  And while we can debate the wisdom of targeting a show to infants till the cows come home, as a single mom I can say it was a lifesaver when I was trying to make dinner.  :-/

Other shows that belong on the list are ALL of the so-called "reality" shows.  The original Survivor was great, but now that they are on their fifth (or is it sixth) version, it's lost a lot of it's originality and appeal.

Worst TV shows of All Time:

Dharma & Greg
American Idol
Survivor
Jerry Springer

Providence(I watched it once there's just no punch too it.) The lead actress carried the show too much.

Saved By The Bel(1994+) The producers tried to duplicate the 89-93 version too much. 1994+ needed its own idenity.

"Bootown"- I saw an Episode a month ago. It was just weak.

"Sabrina The Teenage Witch" I don't know how show lasted so long. I watched it a few times. It just didn't stick with me.

"Charmed" Aaliyssa Milano deserves better than this.

I remember watching that show "Popular" it had potential and everything. The script was nice just didn't last. Same thing with "For Your Love" with Holly Robinson Peete. Jack and Jill was cool too. The WB is a niche player(the Subaru of the Television Industry.) WB tried too go after the big boys(NBC, CBS) but their not one of the big boys. Had Channel 5 had "Popular" and "For Your Love" it might have done something. "Robbry Homicide" on CBS had tons of potential and they pulled it off the air like that. The time slot they put it in was too tough. That went up against Law & Order: SVU I think.

I don't think Family Matters was that bad for the time period. Step By Step was cool. "Blossom" was good too. "Facts of Life" was good for its time period and I used to watch it when I was little.

"The Pitts" is another wacky Fox family sitcom (think "Married...with Children" & "Malcolm In The Middle") minus the laughs and with weird "X Files"/"Twilight Zone" like situations like a talking car having a crush on the teenage daughter. (The only episode of this mess I've seen...)
It's so bad that I only watched 10 minutes of the series before changing the channels.

Soap opreas(all of them suck); Every single daytime "talk show"/ trash talk show  known to mankind (Jerry Springer,Maury Povich, etc.)HORRIBLE!!  >:(

Most nighttime dramas I don't really care for: Boomtown; CSI; All the Law and Orders;Without a Trace, etc. (only a few I like).  ::)

Watching Ellie is garbage! (Julia Louis-Dreyfuss also caught the "Seinfeld curse"(No one from the cast of the great hit show Seinfeld has done really well afterwards.Have you noticed?)
The Pitts was total stupidity.period.
Oliver Beene is crap! It's a wanna-be "Malcolm in the middle". ("Malcolm" is awesome!).
UPN-9 line-up on Mondays is not that good to me.(only a few chuckles at best.)

Despite my criticisms, there ARE some great shows I DO love. :D ;D

His show "Hiller and Diller" (with Richard "7th Heaven" Lewis) was also putrid.
And who could forget the offensive "Chicken Soup" and "The All-American Girl" (with Margaret Cho, not the equally crappy reality show.)

"Oprah"'s starting to go back to being trashy with this week's sex-change shows. Must be a 'sweeps' month.

Just as well. It starred Matthew Fox of "Party of Five", another overrated show. In this one he plays a detective who gains the ability to read both the killer's and victim's minds. (Where have we seen this before? ::)) It replace "Buffy" on the WB after that show moved to UPN.

actually you are quite wrong with that. Haunted is about an ex-cop who gains the ability to dealw ith the dead, receiving pphysic messages from them, solving murders, etc. it was a very good show and it was going somewhere until they canned it...just like "Miracles"

(That's not in the reality genre...there's too many)

"Good Day Live"
