Subject: 4 Straight For Lance Armstrong

Written By: Indy Gent on 07/28/02 at 00:49 a.m.

Unless something bad happens to him (and it is France, so anything could), Lance Armstrong will win his 4th straight Tour de France bicycle race Sunday. It's amazing that he was near death before his Herculean feat.  Do you think this is the greatest of his titles?

I think he's one of the greatest sportspeople of all time, representing an albeit minority sport, just like Michael Schumacher, Phil Taylor, Tiger Woods, etc.

Oh, and re your other point, surely your most recent one is always your best - as illustrated by M. Schumacher's claim.

It may be a minority sport to you, but have you ever been to France?  It's virtually the national sport, and the TDF is the sporting event of the year.

...but Lance Armstrong is awesome, a one-in-a-billion cyclist.

He won by more than seven minutes...

Phil
PS WTF's Phil Taylor?

I thought you'd ask. Phil "The Power" Taylor is the world's greatest darts player. I used his example to illustrate (pretty well, it seems) superior players in minority sports.

Sure, I was taking it from a British perspective. That's the only perspective I can personally hold...  :-/

It's good to see. In my opinion it is more difficult to "retain" winning The Tour De France than winning the first time. To do this, our hats go off to him from all in Australia (well where I am anyway)
