No, I hate my teeth.  They are so bad, I'll probably have to get braces again (I've already had them on the top, but not the bottom).. I guess I should wear my retainer more  :-/  :(

They could look better.  I had braces once.  The bottom bridge is already crooked.  And they're yellowish from smoking for 7 years.  Can't really whiten them too much or you'll notice my cap, which is yellowish to match my current tooth color.  Oh, and I wear a plastic splint at night on my uppers, to keep from chipping my teeth from grinding.   :-/

I like that they are there when I need them… The teeth.

Like this morning. I woke up and immediately went to the mirror in the bathroom. It was there that I noticed teeth, two rows, upper and lower, that were firmly rooted inside the large hole in my head. The same hole that I have noticed on a number of people incidentally. Upon closer inspection, each tooth appeared to have a degree of solidity that I have found is lacking throughout the rest of my outer-body. (Discounting certain unmentionable areas at often inopportune moments.) This aforementioned solidity pleased me to no end as I left the comfort of my own reflection and made my way out into a world filled with perishable and non-perishable foodstuff, all conveniently sized for the hole in my head.

Then I realized I wasn’t wearing pants.

Wow, what a unique question.

I had braces for 2.5 years, so, yes, I like my teeth.  My teeth are very straight, and since I bleached them a few months ago, I'm very proud of my smile.  I don't think those whitening toothpastes really work all that well.  I went to the dentist and they made a mold of my teeth and gave me some whitening gel.  It worked in 1 day.  I only bleach once or twice a year and my teeth are still very white.  It was worth the money.

Teeth are very important to me.  A guy w/ a beautiful smile gives me chills.  Nice teeth are right up there on my list of "must haves" for the opposite sex.  :)

My teeth are ok, but I would really like them to be perfect.
I think there is nothing nicer than a beautiful, perfect smile, and nothing worse than a mouth full of yellow teeth with fillings and decay!!
My only problem is having slightly crooked bottom teeth and a gap near the back on the top row!
The English media is constantly telling us how much the Americans value perfect teeth.  If I ever get the money together, I will have mine done........ ;D

Hmmm....i don't mind my teeth.  No fillings, no crowns etc. despite many years of neglect.  As my grandma would say, i have 'teeth like a horse'.  Granted, they are yellow from my pot-smoking days and from general lack of brushing but other than that they are fairly uniform/straight etc.

I think this is primarily an American concern - Brits are much less fussed about what teeth look like and - although American tales about the quality of British teeth are largely inaccurate because of years of N.H.S. (free) dentistry and flouride in (most of) the water-systems - i think most of the Brits will agree with me on this one: We have the view of Americans having large, unnaturally white and freakishly straight teeth and spending excessive amounts of money on 'fixing' them; which may prove to be as inaccurate as your stereotype of us. *shrugs*

I've got to add the worst teeth i've seen (at least in 'ShowBiz') is Billy-Joe of Green Day's! ;D  Probably the punkest thing about the guy.

I had braces on when I was younger and they are fine in terms of being strieght. But, they are extremely sensitive. I bite into something cold and I hit the ceiling. I have grooves in my front teeth that get stained easily from all the tea I drink. I go to the dentist every 6 month to have them cleaned and the dentist comes in and looks at them for about 5 minutes and tells me that a dentist can't make any money with teeth like mine (and then charges me $45 for that 5 minute lookover  ::)).

Those of you that suffer with sensitive teeth might like to change your tooth paste to one for sensitive teeth.  These contain something (forget what, except that its a salt) which fills the microscopic holes in your tooth enamel.  I'm not sure that it will work on pain when you eat sweets but it certainly does work on the hot/cold type of sensitivity.

I once asked my dentist about tooth pain when I eat sweet things and he said it just showed that the tooth was alive!

I DO use a sensitive toothpaste. My hygenist and my dentist both say that my teeth are "hyposensitive" or "hypersensitive." It is just something that I have to live with.

I like my teeth, they look good.

I have seen articles which state those whitening strips can remove enamil off the teeth, so they can make the tooth sensitive and more prone to decay. I have never had a proplem with the color of my teeth, but I do not smoke and I don't drink too much coffie.

I had sensitive teeth a few years ago. Never knew where it came from, and had no idea why it left. I could not drink anything which was too cold, or one tooth just would let me have it. It was a cringing pain. I tried everything from those pain gels for teeth to crushing asprin and rubbing it into the gums. Nothing worked. Then, as quickly as it came, it left. I never found out what caused it.

Hoeveel, I feel you're right about teeth being a bigger issue to those from the USA than anywhere else (except perhaps for some of those Indo-Pacific/ South American tribes who file them flat). As for this 'free' NHS dental treatment, where/ how d'ya get that?? As far as I know, you have to pay (normally an exorbitant amount) for any treatment (excepting hospitalisation), be it via NHS or private- in most areas it's nigh on impossible to sign on to an NHS dentist as a new patient (waiting list 2,000 patients in my town)... I feel the new culture of having to pay for dental treatment hasn't yet sunk in in the UK, hence our narrow-lipped smiles compared to those of our American 'cousins'...
As for worst teeth in showbiz, Shane Mcgowan of The Pogues has to come near the top of the list. I thought dental care had travelled more than an oceanic distance from Ireland to the U.S., then I thought about Jaws...man, does that fish need to floss (especially having been killed in several sequels...)

Hoe, I have noticed a certain amount of anaology between your comments above, and Americans' "percieved" attitude to their breasts. Apart from changing 'freakishly straight' to 'freakishly round', of course. Would anyone please like to comment from other countries who feel it necessary to cosmetically enhance their body parts, and if your country has a particular body part that people lean towards 'perfecting'???

I think breast enlargements are as commonplace in Britain as they are in America. Katie Price (real name of Jordan) is perhaps famous for her cosmetic surgery than anything else.

Yep, and plenty of others. (That being said, isn't Jordan famous for her 'freak value' in UK by having rather too many operations, whereas this sort of disfigurement is more well publicised in U.S. citizens?? Can't think of any other UK (whatever Jordan does) 'celebs??' who attract their main publicity through their plastic surgery). I was trying to allude to Hoeveels' indication that this was a stereotypical view of Americans, rather than presenting this as fact- I think body modification such as plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons may well be as widespread in the UK as the US (haven't checked figures to back this up), but I feel the British psyche is not as far advanced along the line of seeing artificial modification as a preferable route to 'beauty' as our stereotype of the American psyche. I knew I was playing with fire, getting into the stereotyping bit; I know stereotypes are often wildly innacurate (and I have met some Americans who don't fulfil our many & varied 'expectations' of their behaviour), but I was alluding to our stereotypical view of U.S.A. citizens, rather than trying to represent the analogies I saw as fact. "Only the madman is completely sure", as a book once told me, and there's no way I think my opinion constitutes fact; maybe I saw parallels that weren't there, my apologies to any U.S. (or indeed Brit) readers I may have offended. (Keep your chin up, though if it starts to sag....) ;D.

They don't hurt, once you have them you don't even notice them (unless a piece is loose or broken or something--you have to watch out for that stuff--chewing gum is bad).  They might hurt a bit when they put them on, I don't really remember though.  Once you get them off your mouth feels all slimy from not having all that metal.

I can't wait to get them again--I definitely want to have better teeth.

Dentistry certainly isn't free in the U.K. to the general population.  I am registered with an NHS dentist which means I pay reduced rates but I still have to pay.  I think its about £12.50 for a check-up and then £20 upwards for fillings depending on the size.

Dentistry is free for under-16's, expectant mothers and OAP's.  Others on low income might qualify.   I had my biggest piece of dental work (a crown) done when I was expecting my son.  It saved me about £200!

Do you know what  color teeth are actually supposed to be?

An off-white. When you brush every time, you're making the tooth enamel shiny. So,it's not as bright white like the people you see on TV almost every day.Yes, teeth are very shiny. Some people have periodontitis and gingivitis. My Friend has it cause of all the smoking ciggarettes.I just went to the dentist the other day and My teeth are nice.No problems.I now enjoy visiting the dentist.not as scary as when I was little. ;D

That's right! Many people, especially people in show business, bleach their teeth regularly. Regular bleaching will ultimately prove detrimental to your teeth because the bleach breaks down the enamel, therefore, making them greatly more susceptible to tooth decay.

At least that's what I read. ;D

Q: do you like your teeth?
A: NO!!!!!!

PART I: My teeth are an absolute nightmare (I think my Celtic heritage is partly to blame)! I hate going to the dentist, and going to prison is probably not any worse for me. I've had problems with my teeth for over 15 years! I mean, two appointments ago, I literally cried in the chair. Enough for the dental hygenist to pass me over some tissue.

PART II: OK, if you're eating or have a sensitive stomach, maybe you should stop reading because I'm going to get into some gross details. I have periodontal disease, and there's not really a cure for that. I was diagnosed with that two appointments ago, and I cried when she told me about the significant bone loss in my teeth. I now need to visit the dental office every four months. No I don't smoke. Yes, 95% of the time I brush my teeth and tongue at least twice a day with flossing. I also use mouthwash sometimes as a combat assistant.

Part III: I should also note that my teeth are yellowish (I guess from my cup of caffeine and glass of red wine a day habit). I try not to use the whitening toothpaste unless I'm really trying to make an important first impression because I think it's irritating my gums even more, which are already in a sh*tty state, especially my bottom!

Part IV: My teeth are also chaotic in terms of straightness. My bottom are slightly crooked and I've got such an overbite that they're almost buck! I can barely close my lips, and when I do, my two top teeth sometimes really dig into my lower lip so much that it can be irritating! What's really sad is that I spent over two years with my face in dental gear: silver wire braces (top and bottom) with elastics and  headgear that I had to wear 14 hours/day, then after that a retainer that I could take in and out as well as another retainer that was cemented behind my bottom teeth that wasn't removed till I was 21. As well, I had plastic sealing on my top front teeth to fill in a gap, but I think that's wearing off. I could get my teeth fixed by a periodontist followed by a second cycle of braces (hopefully clear ones), but I'd like to spend my money on furthering my education. And besides money on dental care just seems to go to waste on me. Thas is why I give a closed-lip smile instead of a toothy grin!

In conclusion, with frequent dental trips, fillings, molar and wisdom teeth extractions, dental gear, and sealing, what I'm almost on the version of my teeth is, "I GIVE UP!!!" (I live in Canada instead of the US also so teeth are probably not as important as us as opposed to our southern neighbors)

Note: Sorry for the long response. Based from what is shown above, my teeth are a sad, sad, sad, sad, sad, sad case.  :'( And that is only the tip of the iceberg. I could seriously write about a book about the state of my teeth, but I've given you, readers, a condensed version of my dental story.

I can say that I drink coffee nowadays but at least I brush right after. & I've always had crooked front teeth from the days I use to suck my thumb from 1974-1985 and wound up with braces.I talk with a lisp now.But anyways,The dentist says I have a natural white smile and you should keep your teeth looking good for quite a long time. ;D
