Yeah.  It's alive and well in Europe.  That whole continent takes August off.

These doors that open upwards. I always thought that if the wheels weren't too darn heavy, then they could create, using the aeroplane wing concept, that we could elevate cars some time. Also we need some means of propellation, say... propellors.

Does this sound fantastical? Who knows. Let's hope not, avoid traffic jams and such. After all, there is more sky than there is asphalt.

Can you imagine the carnage if cars could fly? People can't even drive properly!

Um, not so sure I'd be crazy about the cigarette butts and other litter that my fellow Americans would no doubt rain down on me if the sky above were to be used by "flying cars" criss-crossing about all that extra space! And as Goreripper suggested, what would happen should two or more of these cars collide - not just to the folks in the vehicles, but on the ground below? ???

Guess those flying machines would put an end to nude sunbathing in the backyard as well... ;)

Could you imagine the cost for the insurance premium that flying car would generate?

Maybe they'll regulate it more closely so that only properly trained people can drive a flying car...it should be a lot harder to get the license so not every yahoo will get to go in a flying car, and maybe promote more public transportation or whatever.

It would definately be the cost of a flying car that will reguate who may be flying.  As long as we don't have flying Taxicabs going for a long time we'll be okay.

I am an air traffic controller and I pray to everything that is holy that we never see flying cars.  There are highly trained and educated pilots which have over 5,000 hours of experience or more that make operator errors.  Gravity is a good thing for cars.
