Subject: Spongebob Squarepants

Written By: Jonman on 09/26/02 at 03:27 a.m.

I just wanted to know if anyone else out there is hooked on this show like I am?

I've never been one to love cartoons....other than the Simpson's...but Spongebob...I dunno....just something about it that makes me LMAO!! It's definitely written for adults while entertaining children at the same time....

Anyone else or am I just a weirdo freak?

PS: Thanks to SS for the tapes!!

gary rocks.  it cracks me up that spongebob has a pet snail...and his name cracks me up even more because a) gary is an uncommon name for a pet and b) it's my boyfriend's name (with out one of the r's).  sometimes it processes that my boyfriend is a pet snail.  i don't know....i never said i was sane, nor did i say i wasn't weird.

I used to think SpongeBob was stupid...before I actually watched it.  Now that show cracks me up!
Even though in real life, I'm scared of crustaceans, I think my favorite person on SpongeBob is Mr. Crabs.  I like the episode where he thinks Mr. Crabs is a robot cause he's doing that funny dance.  ;)

Oh yes...I am totally addicted to SpongeBob...it comes on here 4 times a day and I try to watch every episode!!

My favorite one so far would have to be where he pretends to be a lifeguard...SpongeBob in a SPEEDO!!!!!!  How funny is that....but the one where he takes Pearl to the prom is a pretty good one too...with the Elvis hair!!

BTW...you are welcome Jonman....more on their way! ;)

No, you are not a freak.  I was singing, too.  In fact it is just about time for Spongebob and I need to change the channel.

SS, Spongebob in a speedo is definately one of the more memorable moments of the show.  ;D

I absolutely, positively, most definitely love the meowing snail.  When I first started watching the show, the snail made me laugh so hard I almost passed out (literally).  I mean, who in the world would even think of making a snail meow?  The snail/meowing combination is crazy but HILARIOUS.

So, to answer your question, Jonman, NO you are not a weirdo freak (well, at least not for liking Spongebob).

It is a great cartoon.  I thought it was really odd at first before I watched one with my kid....now I ask her when it is coming on.   ;D  But then I have always enjoyed cartoons.

I saw on one of these news sites that Spongebob has a gay following and is considered a gay icon. I don't get it. ???

Yeah Indy, I listen to "The Big Show" (morning syndicated radio show in the south) and their "resident cromudgeon" was commenting on how big SB&SP were in the major cities in the gay communities. "Not that theres anything wrong with that."

Gay people need to laugh too!  I don't understand why it would be more popular with them than with anyone else but whatever....I LOVE it and that's all I care about! It's all about ME!! Heheeeeeeeeee

Yeah, there was an editorial here (Boston) in today's paper about that.  The columnist's general take on the subject was along the lines of "so what".  She pointed out that the show was designed to appeal to kids, with in-jokes for the parents who are most likely watching with their kids.  She also went into a brief history of other cartoon characters throughout history who were supposedly "gay icons", but no one knew about it.

I love the show, and my daughter has been given permission to use Spongebob's pseudo-swears instead of a "real" bad word when she is angry.  All her teachers think it's cute when she says "Barnacles!" when she drops something.  I've found myself doing it too.  "Barnacles!"  "Nematodes!" ect.  ;D ;D ;D

My favorite episode is the one where he gets lost when he misses his bus stop.  He waits and waits and waits forever for the next bus home which never comes until he turns his back, or steps away from the bus stop.  Since I don't drive, I can truly understand.  I can almost believe the writers were watching me for this idea.  ;)

I read the Gay Icon article, too.  In the one I read they said it was Squidward.  Stupid.  The part of the article I found interesting was where it says it was created for 2-11 year olds, but it has tons of 18-49 year old fans.  (Of course I count myself as one of them ;D)
