Subject: Would you agree...

...that Michael Jackson is the King of Pop and Madonna the Queen of Pop? I guess this is the well known attitude that people have adopted for the prime male and female in contemporary music culture, but do you guys agree with this. To be honest, I'm not sure, although I can't think of any other female who can out-do Madonna from the last 20 years. So, over to you...

Michael Jackson ain't king of s*** to me.  Prince should have gotten that title.  Madonna hasn't deserved her title in about twelve years, but I can't think of anyone else who deserves it more than she does.

Michael Jackson sucks. Prince sucks.  Madonna sucks.  "Pop" music in general sucks.  That's my opinion.

Prince rocks, and he also funks, pops, and souls.

Michael Jackson and Modonna haven't been the King and Queen of Pop since they were fired from Pepsi. ;D

Sorry, but never liked Prince. The only song I like is 'When Doves Cry'. He's nothing special IMO.

I thought he gave music up in the mid90s.

I would agree with Madonna being Queen of pop, but as far as King... well... I just couldn't say, yeah Micheal Jakson is definitely a freako but he IS a talented person er...guy  ??? uuuh... whatever he is, and IMO he does deserve a little credit for that, perhaps not to the tune of king of pop though.

I would agree to that "back in the day", LOL!

I'm sorry, but even though he has become pretty damned wierd in the past several years, back during 'the Thriller years', I think he was definitely the king of pop--no one else seemed to even come close.  I did like Prince, but Michael Jackson was even beyond him, IMO.  I can't think of anybody else of that "caliber", even now, but I'm just not sure I can still call him that--he just hasn't, IMO, did anything 'phenomonal' in quite awhile.

As for Madonna, though I've never heard her referred to as the queen of pop, I do agree that she has outlasted pretty much everyone else, so yeah, I suppose she is.  Can't think of any others that have grown with the times so much, or so successfully.

If you can't see the genius of Prince, I wonder what is wrong with YOU.

As for Michael vs. Prince, I don't see how there's a question.  Prince was the one trying to be truly innovative, making art, unafraid to make mistakes while Michael Jackson was inventing the standard for totally prepackaged pop; that's why every basically garbage TRL artist looks up to him.  I won't deny that Michael can be entertaining but he ain't fit to shine Prince's purple high-heeled boots.

I's all down to a matter of taste. Prince just isn't my kinda   thing. I actually don't think that there is one Male solo artist around who can claim the pop crown at the moment. How Robbie Williams topped VH1's 100 Greatest Men Poll is beyond my comprehnsion. I think people like Morrissey, Paul Wellar, Sting are better artists than many of those who came in the top 10 of the poll (even though I think Sting was quite high up).

Robbie Williams??

Do you British people have any respect for yourselves at all?

Hey! Some of us have taste, it just unfortunate for our reputation that only the tastless got to actually vote on this poll! There is only one Robbie Williams song that I like, and that is 'No Regrets' which was with Neil Tennant and Paul Wellar - which automatically helps it go up in my standards ;D
