Subject: Songs You Love Now (But didn't used to )

Written By: Criz on 10/07/02 at 02:27 p.m.

Another music topic...There must be so many songs that you disliked or weren't fussed about when they were first released, and now you absolutly adore them.

Looking back on old cassettes from the mid 90's whenI was about 10 or 11 I used to dislike for example Lisa Loeb - Stay ( which is subsequently my avatar atm), The Connells - 74/75 and Paul Wellar - You Do Something To Me and now I think that these songs are absolutly fantastic and could not imagine disliking them in any way.

So what are yours and did you have any specific reasons for disliking them back then, or liking them a lot now?

When I make a judgement, I tend to stick with it, but there are exceptions.  The big one has to be Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles," which I absolutely adore right now.  I didn't give it a chance the first time I heard it, probably because of how much I disliked and still dislike Michelle Branch.  I thought, "Man, not another talentless suburban poet girl."  I was wrong.  Vanessa, she is a TALENT.  I'm seriously hoping she doesn't fade away once this stupid "anti-Britney" trend dries up and Michelle and Avril are relegated to the used bin.

Another big one is the entirety of Oasis' (What's the Story) Morning Glory.

I used to think all Dave Matthews Band sucked, but I've changed my mind.  Now I think that all Dave Matthews Band except for "What Would You Say" sucks.

Groups that I didn't like at first, but learned to appreciate over time: Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Rod Stewart, Steve Miller Band, the Eagles (I still loathe their new stuff after they got back together briefly.), and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Sorry, Kenny, I have the opposite opinion of Vanessa and Michelle. ;)

Also, I used to hate DMX, Busta Rhymes, and the Wu-Tang Clan, but I'm getting to like them (Busta especially).

This baffles me, for I cannot see any possible justification for this.

The justification is "to each his own" I personally think Dave Mathewes Band is great, where you think they suck. Neither  one of us is right or wrong, thats whats great about music. I used to have "musical predjudices" (ie I though Rush was the best thing since sliced bread and it "wasn't cool" to like Creedence Clearwater Revival) Now I look back on that opinion and have done a complete 180. Good thread.

Sting's "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free" - Was played constantly on radio & MTV in 1985.  Couldn't stand it then.  Like it now.

I used to not be a big fan of Poop Snogg but now I dig his stuff.
