Subject: "The Time Machine" movie...

Written By: 80sRocked on 11/11/02 at 11:28 a.m.

This movie came out a year or so ago.  It didn't last in theaters, and went quickly to video.  Its a re-make of the Jules Verne classic.

Anyway, I saw this movie this weekend, and it was horrible.  Other than a few minutes of "time warping" that had some great special FX, the other 98% of the movie was just awful.  Has anyone else seen this waste of film?

Saw it in the thatres when it opened in March.  I actually kinda liked it.  Good effects, nice story.  Left a few questions, but overall not bad at all.

I just saw it last night!  :o  What a coincidence!

Yeah. I agree with the great special FX. I will not be as harsh in my criticism because I thought it entertaining enough to warrant my time watching it. Believe me, I've seen much worse.  ::)

It had such potential!!!

80sRocked, where there specific things about the story that bothered you?

Do tell!

I'll add that I found the conflict element of the story quite dissapointing.

I saw it a few months ago, we downloaded it off the internet. I didn't think it was anything spectacular. The original was fine and the remake didn't do anything to 'wow' me but I thought it was ok to watch. My b/f liked it because Samantha Mumba is from the same area in Ireland and he was proud seeing a 'local girl' in a Hollywood movie.

I did a report on the book at the same time that the movie was out, so one night while I was bored I figured I'd go see it.

There was absolutely no one in the theatre (and it was only the second week) so I used my jacket as a pillow and laid down in the middle of the aisle.

It was all right, I suppose.  Cheesy but all right.

I just thought it was very slow.  I saw the previews and it looked very interesting, but the actual movie was a major let-down.  I kept waiting for something to happen, and before I knew it, the movie was over.  I did like the few minutes of "time-warping", but other than that, very slow and dull.

By the way, you mentioned you just watched it, did you by chance see it on DirecTV Pay-per-View like I did?

I actually bought it (on sale for $4.99 at BlockBuster :o)!

I like and collect Sci-Fi, so I had to get it - especially at that price and being fairly recent.  ;)

I found it to be slow as well. There seemed to be better alternatives to some of the situations. It also seemed to end a bit abruptly for me.

What was the last minute villain trying to do with the dude and the time machine before he was pulverized? I guess I could watch it again, in case I missed something there.

I can't bash the movie too much, my sister-in-law helped do some of the special effects for the film- and that one scene where they all turn to skeletons was kinda cool. But otherwise...that movie is a waste of space

I thought it was ok but as a time-filler, but like I said..it didn't blow the old one away or anything.

Eh...not too much of a Jules Verne fan. Never saw the first one

I thought it was quite fun. Left me with a few questions but it was pretty good.

Slight correction:
The original "Time Machine" novel was written by H.G. Wells, not Jules Verne.

Indeed yo are correct! It was a HG Wells story; the film was actually produced by his grandson. You'd think he would have made more of an effort, huh?  :)
