Subject: New Star Trek Movie...

Written By: John_Seminal on 11/22/02 at 04:28 p.m.

I was watching TV today and a commercial for "Star Trek: Nemisis" aired. It looks pretty good, and from what I can tell, it appears Data's brother will be back. Too bad Spock and Kirk are gone. Not to mention Scotty, "I'll  get this warp coil back on line as soon as I finish another drink". I hope this TNG movie is as good as the old Kahn Star Trek was. Somehow, the TNG did not capture good story lines on the big screen like the original did.

I saw the preview on the big screen when I went to see Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets.

On the big screen, it looked quite awesome.

I never have been a big fan of "The Next Generation". It lacked the chemistry, IMO. It also may be that I'm a fan of the Original series and Original crew, through & through.

I'll definitely give "Nemesis" a chance.  :)  I hope it proves to be better than it's predecessors.

I saw the previews to this recently as well. Looks like a great installment. The scuttlebutt is that this is supposed to be the final film featuring Picard and the gang. I hope that's just a rumor!!!  :)

That reminds me of a Ebert quote when the first crew ended their movie run: "They finally went where none of them have gone before, retirement." I hope that is not true, as I like Star Trek. What I do not understand is this: why is there an attitude that they can only produce one kind of Star Trek movie. Why not have seperate movies with the original crew, while still makin TNG movies. I just hope that they do not decide it is Deep Space nine's turn, as I never got into that series. Voyager would be better than DS9.

They could perhaps do an amalgam movie, with all three contemporary crews joining forces to, I dunno, fight the Borg or something.  Plus Spock and Sulu and Scotty are allegedly still alive in the TNG universe, so they should be able to bring those guys back.  Too bad Bones died :-/

As for Nemesis, this movie NEEDS to succeed for the Trek franchise to keep up its steam.  The new Enterprise show entertains me but can't get the ratings of a CSI or a Law & Order because it only caters to the Sci-Fi audience (even though the Vulcan chick is fine, mraor!).  The movie can draw in even more fans and could jumpstart the Trek franchise again.

Trek movies are fun because, despite their relatively low budgets, the special effects are always top-notch and the acting isn't that bad either :)  I'll definitely go see it.
