Subject: STUPID BOOK!

Written By: QueenAmenRa on 12/04/02 at 04:08 p.m.

Ok, all of us have seen movies where you're really anticipating a happy ending, but when the movie's over you just go THAT HAS GOT TO BE THE DUMBEST ENDING EVER!!!!
Well have you ever read a book that made you feel the same way?  I just finished reading "Tess of the D'urbervilles" by Thomas Hardy and I just kinda went "UH!!!!"

Well tell me what ya think y'all.

Well, I just mean if the ending's really disappointing.  :-/
I'm not really into Charles Dickens though.

Well, it might be heretical to mention him after Chekhov and Kafka, but if you're looking for 'ohhh' as opposed to 'uh' endings, you might wanna read some of O. Henry's short stories.  I mean, O. Henry is the most famous "ender" in literature.

Hmm...I've never heard of Chekhov or Kafka.  I think the only O' Henry stories I know are "The Gift" (duh) and some other one about "until the last leaf falls off the tree", but someone had painted a leaf on the building behind the tree.
But some other authors I do like are the Brontes.  Like when I finished reading Jane Eyre, I almost cried with happiness.  =..)   lol   It's one of those "YAY!" endings.

I've said that for movies and books that don't have happy endings. My sister saw "The Whole Nine Yards" on TBS, and she thought that the ending was stupid because Bruce Willis got away with murdering an undercover cop and framing Michael C. Duncan, whom (WARNING: SPOILER ALERT) he has killed too.

I don't mind happy or unhappy endings, or even endings where no major resolution is reached, but it all depends on the execution.  My dad came home very angry over the ending to the Jack Nicholson movie "The Gift," and after he told me about it, I had to agree:  That was a crap ending.

Has anyone ever read Tess of the D'urbervilles??  Cuz you would probably find that book THE crappiest ending compared to most other things.  I mean, not only is it so depressing throughout pretty much the whole book, but I don't think anything good ever happens to Tess, all cuz she's SO STUPID!!!   Ok sorry, I may have gotten too much into that novel...maybe because I can kinda relate to her.

I totally agree!!! I was so mad when I finished that book! Tess was stupid. In fact I don't think I liked a single person in that book by the time I was done reading it.

No joke!  My theory is she probably got drunk a lot with her friends at that one place that she had no common sense left.
