Subject: The Best Songs of 2002?

Written By: Screwball54 on 12/22/02 at 09:30 p.m.

Now that 2002 is almost over, what do you think were the best songs and why?

My Vote:

I think "Somewhere out there" by Our laddy Peace was the best rock song.  It was a decent song, and a moderate hit, but it wasn't big enough to make you sick of hearing it (then again I only listen to the top 40 station on sunday morning)

For best rap song I pick PO' Folks by Nappy Roots. It is rap,  but it is not anoying like other rap artist, the message of the song is good, and it wasn't overplayed.

For best Electronic song I pick "Starry Eyed Suprise" by  Paul Oakenfold.  It is a decent song, and one of the few electronic songs I like.

Anybody else?

"The Game of Love" - Santana f/Michelle Branch.  I go out driving just so I can be driving when I hear this song on the radio.

Other awesome songs:
"Stole" - Kelly Rowland
"The Whole World" - Outkast
"Work It" - Missy Elliot
"A Thousand Miles" - Vanessa Carlton
"Fell in Love with a Girl" - White Stripes
"Lose Yourself" - That guy
"Freak Like Me" - Sugababes  I swear to God, you have to download this song.  It's beyond wonderful.  I can only describe it as TLC meets Nine Inch Nails.
"Hate to Say I Told You So" - The Hives
"Underneath It All" - No Doubt
"Never Gonna Stop (The Red, Red Kroovy)" - Rob Zombie
"American Girls" - Counting Crows

The number one song has to be White Stripes "Fell In Love With A Girl".

Others include:

Nappy Roots "Po Folks"
Eminem "Without me"
Eminem "Lose Yourself" (top 5 of the year)
Usher "U Got It Bad"
Missy Elliott "Work It"
Red Hot Chili Peppers "Zephyr Song"
New Found Glory "My Friends Over You"
Boxcar Racer "I Feel So"
Jimmy Eat World "Sweetness"
Hoobastank "Crawling In The Dark"
Linkin Park "In The End" (slightly overplayed ::))
Nirvana "You Know You're Right"
Ozzy Osbourne "Dreamer" & "Gets Me Through" (or were those from 2001...?)
OK Go "Get Over It"
Simple Plan "I'm Just A Kid" (For some reason, I'm strangely attracted to this song, although I absolutely hate the band because they're posers.)
Stone Sour "Bother" (is right up in the Top 5 of the year)
Sum41 "Still Waiting"
Tenacious D "Wonderboy" & "Tribute"
System Of A Down "Toxicity"
The Distillers "City Of Angels"
Weezer "Keep Fishin"
Nelly "Hot In Herre" (while that annoying song he did with Kelly Rowland is one of the WORST of 2002 -- gives me a headache.)
OutKast "The Whole World"
Shakira "Whenever Whereever"

Er, maybe that list was too long... ::) :P ;D

Somewhere Out There- Our Lady Peace(nice pop-rock song), More Than A Woman, I Care 4U-Aaliyah(this woman was just an unbelievable performer), Bother-Stone Sour(a song with lot of emotion and feeling), Don't Know Why-Norah Jones(she has a sexy voice and has earned her way to the top), Zepher Song-Red Hot Chilli Peppers(the Chilli Peppers keep on making good funk rock hits), Gotta Get Thru This-Daniel Beginfield(good dance song), Something About You-Lasgo, One Mic, Made You Look-Nas(He is the past rapper out there right now), Steve McQueen-Sheryl Crow(this song needed more airplay and its nice to see Sheryl Crow doing something different music style wise), Love At First Sight, Can't Getta Out Of My Head, Come Into My World-Kylie Minogue(the queen of dance right now), Hey Ma-Camron f/Juelz Santana(It's just a catchy rap song), Why Don't We Fall In Love?-Amerie(I like the bass line of this song and her voice goes over the bass line perfectly), Up and Down-Deborah Cox(she is so underrated its not even funny), My Block-Scarface(nice to see real rap music still being produced), Last Nite-The Strokes(I like the gutair on this song and vocals), One Day In Your Life-Anastacia(She is the modern day version of Chaka Khan)

I haven't listened to commercial radio since at least 90. I think most mainstream bands suck and are overrated. There I go....being jaded once more. ::)

Well,

I agree with your point that the Nirvana song was not "new" this year.  Actually, I think it was recorded in 1994, but I didn't think twice about it because the song wasn't available to hear on a widespread scale until earlier this year.

Too much really... Ill put the mainstream ones here:

Nirvana - You Know Youre Right
Oasis - Little By Little
Pacifier - Run
Our Lady Peace - Somewhere Out There and Innocent
Foo Fighters - All My Life (although a little overplayed)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Cant Stop (this song actually sounds like the original RHCP)
Audioslave - Cochise (a good mix of Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine)
New Order - 60 MPH
Trapt - Headstrong
Ash - Envy
AudioVent - Energy
Weezer - Dope Nose and Keep Fishing

Idlewild - American English and You Held The World (download these songs now anyone who likes indie music!)

Justin Timberlake - Like I Love You (sorry to the enormous amounts of those who dislike it - but this song is a tune!)

Jimmy Eat World - The Middle and Sweetness (Many have compalined that they're overplayed in the States. Luckily they get no airplay over here on mainstream radio :))

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - The Zephyr Song and By The Way (I never really got into this band until this year)

Lasgo - Something (Just a good dance song)

Electric Six - Danger! High Volatge ( Technically it's not out 'til Jan 6 - but its had lots of airplay and I love it!)

Hmm that's all I can think of for now

Songs mentioned that I like:

*Starry Eyed Surprise
*The Game of Love
*Stole
*Work It
*A Thousand Miles
*Underneath It All
*Just Like a Pill
*My Friends Over You
*In The End
*Hands Clean+
*I'm Gonna Get You Good
*Don't Know Why
*Love At First Sight
*The Middle
*Hella Good
*Hero
*All My Life
*Lose Yourself
*Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake)

Songs that're actually late 2001(cuz I'm a neat-freak):

*Whenever Wherever
*No More Drama
*Can't Get You Out Of My Head
*U Got it Bad
*Get the party started

Songs not mentioned that I like:

*Complicated, Sk8er boi, I'm with you(Avril lavigne... yeah I like her, so?)
*Dilemma(Nelly, Hot in Herre was pretty overplayed)
*+the rest of Alanis' album, Under Rug Swept!
*Help me
*Don't let me get me
*(that tango song) by Shakira
*Family affair
*John Rzeznik's song from Treasure Planet maybe
*and, for the list's variety, Isle Delfino's theme from Super Mario Sunshine:P  game music's barely more popular now, though just on the net

What's funny is that late 2001, by pop-media's standards, is considered 2002, whilst late 2002 will be considered 2003(excluding album songs not currently released as singles).  It's sorta like 3 years in 1, lol!
