Subject: Worst Songs Of 2002

Written By: lebeiw15 on 12/26/02 at 04:35 p.m.

So we had a list of BEST songs of 2002... how about the worst?  Here's my list:

"Lose Yourself"-- Eminem  (I don't know, I just can't stand this song)
"Just Like a Pill"-- Pink
"Jenny From the Block"-- Jennifer Lopez  (I HATE this song)
"Spin"-- Lifehouse
"Dilemma"-- Nelly feat. Kelly Rowland (I used to like this song before it came on about once every two hours)
"Cry Me a River" and "Like I Love You"-- Justin Timerlake (This dude sounds like a girl)
"My Neck, My Back"-- Khia
"Boys"-- Britney Spears

I hope no one did this topic already.

Don't agree on Eminem, but the rest of the list looks right.  Others:

Nickelback - "Too Bad."  May the Lord save us from Kroeger the Mediocre.  This song is EVIL.
Avril Lavigne - "Complicated."  Sk8er Boi is at least listenable because it is gorgeously stupid.  Complicated doesn't even have that going for it.
Michelle Branch - "All You Wanted."  This has to have hte limpest songwriting I've ever heard that actually got radio airplay.
Vanessa Carlton - "Ordinary Day."  THIS is 2002's great new crop of songwriters??
John Mayer - "Your Body Is a Wonderland."  John Mayer sings like he yawns.  He plays music that makes me yawn.  I hate John Mayer.  I want to punch John Mayer.
Goo Goo Dolls - "Here Is Gone."  Continuing my crusade against weenie rock.
Our Lady Peace - "Somewhere Out There."  Power ballads offend God.
Faith Hill - "Cry."  I think it says something about the state of country music when more authentic country music is being played on modern rock radio sung by Kid Rock than on actual country stations.
Pink - "Don't Let Me Get Me."  This should have been left on whatever Meredith Brooks album it came from, where it could have been safely ignored.

Excluding Eminem, Lifehouse, J Lo, and Khia (only because that song is pretty darn funny), I agree with your list.

I totally disagree with Kenny's list (they certainly arent the best but definitely not the worst) except for Michelle & Vanessa. They are great artists,  but these werent their best songs.

More Worsts:

Avril "Skater Boy" - Lyrically, this is a pretty sucky song. Plus, it was frickin' annoying, I couldn't get by 2 hours without hearing it least 4903 times. It makes me thankful for REAL rock music.
Creed "One Last Breath" - Three words: cover your ears. Another way-too-overplayed song.
Britney "Overprotected" - Thank goodness this wasn't as big of a Britney hit. I wouldn't be able to handle it.
Good Charlotte "Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous" - I would have no problem with it if they didn't claim they were punk. Because I've seen self-prolaimed pop-rock bands play harder, heavier music then them.
Simple Plan "I'd Do Anything" - same.
Unwritten Law "Up All Night" -- Ahhh! It hurts my ears.
Christina Aguliera "Dirrrty" - see "One Last Breath".

ETA:

Honorable Mentions include No Doubt "Hella Good", Paulina Rubio "Don't Say Goodbye", and Shania Twain "I'm Gonna Getcha Good".

I don't Agree with "Just like a Pill". granted it is Pink, so the song could suck by association, but this song was actually decent.  I wish someone else had recorded it. If you want to nominte a pink song How about "Get this party started" or "don't let me Get me", both were ten times worse.

So many to list  >:( So ill narrow it down to the worst 10...

7. Any new song by Christina Aguilera
6. Nelly - Hot In Here
5. White Stripes - Dead Leaves On The Dirty Ground
4. Bon Jovi - Misunderstood (The 80s are OVER dude!!!)

"Jenny From The Block" - J-Lo
"Hey Ma" and "Oh Boy" - Cam'ron
"Soak Up The Sun" - Sheryl Crow (the most overplayed piece of crap I've ever heard)  >:(

"One Last Breath" by Creed

Anything by the Stripes or the Strokes etc... I just have something against these bands.

Shaina Twain - Gonna Get Ya Good (This song really does suck)

Britney - I Love Rock n Roll (Don't ruin a great classic again please)

I think Oaisis new stuff is no way as good as their 'Morning Glory' period. It's a dissapointment.

To be honest - some of the songs that people absolutly detest I kinda like or don't really mind. I think Justin Timberlake is fantastic (He sings, he dances. Ok I do fancy him :P - but he's talented. I'm telling you that in how ever many years, people will remember him). I like Michelle Branch's, 'All You Wanted' (though none of her other stuff). Sk8r Boi is overplayed but ok. Oh well - everyone is entitleds to their own opinion.

To tell you the truth, I don't really have any songs to add here.  As a few people mentioned on the Best of thread, I just don't even listen to mainstream radio anymore.

Oh wait, no I just thought of one that I hear everytime I go out to a club.  The song that sloppy drunk people dance to everywhere,

Nelly-Hot In Here

Thought of another one:  Kasey Chambers "Not Pretty Enough."  The woman sounds like Juliana Hatfield on helium, her lyrics makes me gag, her music is easy-listening/country (definitely a winning combination, right?).

That is what it boils down to of course. Like my good ole Dad, (who loves the Beach Boys and wouldn't think of listening to anything released nowadays ;)) says- "There are only two kinds of music: music you like and music you don't." I tend to agree with him on that.

Okay, I don't know what that is but if it's "The Ketchup Song", you've got a winner!  After the neauseating longivity of "The Macarena", why would people embrace this P.O.S.?  I'm seeing three marginally attractive latinas doing the 'hokey-pokey' to an easy, insipid song, without much verve, at that.

Furthermore, all those other songs were annoying, but 'The Ketchup Song' is simply bad, and exists merely as the musical accompaniment of an uninspired line dance. That's why it's the worst song of the year.

Juliana Hatfield is real good... as for my worst songs of 2K2... umm... ooh, Sk8er Boi. Marilyn Manson's ego-satiating version of Tainted Love, DJ Otzi's World Cup Remix of Hey Baby *shiver*, David Bowie's Everybody Says Hi, which everyone hates over here, even my friend who's a really big Bowie fan. Ooh yes, and finally, Jenny From The Block.

Subject: Re: Worst Songs Of 2002

I must be the only person who finds The Ketchup Song not annoying in the slightest.  Maybe it's because I've never seen this line dance, or the music video.  Maybe it's because I don't speak Spanish and have never heard the English version, and thus don't understand how bad the lyrics are.  Maybe it's because the only time I've been exposed to it is when I downloaded it myself out of curiousity.  But my pop instincts tell me this is a fine song.  Listen to that perfect wordless melody!  Listen to that wonderful acoustic guitar!  It's almost got an Avalon-era Roxy Music feel to it!

For the record, I hated the Macarena nearly instantly.

There is a lot of Pink haters on here because the poor damn girl can't decide which genre of music she wants to be classed in.... Firstly R n' B then "Rock Hahahaha" then Pop.

Also it's because her songs suck.  Just like a Pill was merely "poo" because the chorus was very cheesy... now what rhymes with itch... I know just add B and a W.

About Good Charlotte...

I know this is pretty much a matter of opinion, but I think being "punk" is more about the attitude than the music you play or the clothes that you wear. Being punk is all about standing up for the belief that life isn't perfect, for fighting for your rights and giving the middle finger to civilized society. Punk is punk. And if you think you're a punk, and say you're a punk, and believe in yourself, then you probably are one.

I agree and disagree.
First off, you are right. "Punk" is an attitude. But people can believe they are something they're not. And the fake ones, they think that the clothes they where make them punk.
I, I am not punk. I am an avid listener of (real) punk music, but I'm not a punk. I have a little rebel attitude, but I am a mostly follow-the-rules kinda guy.
You said, "its not about the music you play". I think it IS about the music you play in a way. Sum41 were influnced by bands from all over, yet still have a taste of bands like the Sex Pistols and stuff. Avril doesn't even know who the Sex Pistols are .
Good Charlotte is wrongfully targeted, because before their most recent album, they had awesome music. While previous albums have less and less poppy stuff on it, their newest album was more of a "campfire, let's have fun and jump up and down and stuff" album. It was pop/rock - dominated, not pop/punk dominated like previous albums. Known for there previous pop-punk albums, this album was wrongfully labeled "punk".

Anyways, I agree that punk is an attitude. But if your record company molded your attitude, and your attitude isn't real, then you're not whatever you say you are.

I would say "Postmodern" means the questioning of anything absolute.  It also rejects universal truths and science (as the only answer to everything).  In short, "Everything is an illusion" and "There is no absolute truth" are imbedded in this philosophy.

The sad part of the songs today is that only a very few people really sing for something they could really fight for  (Sadly, U2 is slowly becoming one of them).  It seems our songs today are MTV before music--image is everything, but content...who cares?

I apologize for this brief misunderstanding   ;).

About U2, when I said "because the cold war was over", I simply meant that when this event had ended, I never heard a U2 song as good as the ones they sang before.

I actually think "Walk On" is U2's best song, followed by "Pride" and "One", but i don't really like their chartbuster 80's hits, guess I have heard them to much.

I'm sure it does seem that way, if all you listen to is MTV.

But don't get me wrong. Postmodernism already existed even during the eighties. In MTV, for example, "Livin' for a Prayer" had a music video that had nothing to do with the actual song (Bon Jovi gliding over the stage with a harnessed cable).  Also, most rock bands then often displayed the brand of their instrument in contrast to displaying brands of cellphones and cars in many badly done rap videos today. It was form over content but we enjoyed it anyway, didn't we?  Honestly, that horrid word called Postmodernism is too technical to explain as we go further.  I regretted I brought that up.

But let that issue not hinder us from enjoying good music, ok? ;)

John Mayer didn't have a song called "Invincible." Perhaps you mean "No Such Thing" because he mentions that word in that song.

I think "She Hates Me" by Puddle of Mudd is the worst.  And I can listen to pretty much anything, but this song has GOT to go!  >:(

Hard to Explain by the Strokes tortured my ears for so long...

I've never heard this Ketchup Song or of these Cheeky Girls... but I never listen to pop so... lol

The Linkin Park remixes were overplayed on my station so I'm going to be biased against them, but the originals are better anyway. Everyone's going to rush on me and call me a sellout, but I actually bought Hybrid Theory before it was big.

No Doubt- Hey Baby- The video won some MTV VMA's and they said on Making The Video that it was one of the easiest videos to make. Plus, It's way too overplayed.

Play- I'm going to make you love me- 3 words: VERY BAD LYRICS. But, really, whatn do you expect? Theyr'e only about 10 years old.  ::)

ANYTHING BY BAHA MEN  :P

But all of these songs were actually popular among the kids. Plus, 2 of them are on Kids Bop 3.

THE ABSOLUTE WORST SONGS OF 2002:

DJ Sammy "Heaven" (Enough said..... Bryan, if you're out there, get DJ Sammy banned from all genres of the entertainment industry. :'()

Las Ketchup "Ketchup Song" (I said a hip hop the hippie to the hippie.....I say "Enough already! It's been done!")

Debby Boone "You Light Up MY Life" (Even thortysomething years after its release, it is still one of the worst songs to hit anybody's ears. Down with Debby Boone!)

Any song off of Pat Boone's "metal" album ('nuff said)

ANYTHING by Michael Bolton (Horrible, horrible voice. I could sing in the shower and sound like Pink Floyd!! I once thought I heard Michael Bolton's voice, but it was actually a flu sneeze.)

DJ Sammy "Boys of Summer" (Get your own songs, Sammy! The songs will still suck by you, but at least you won't be murdering anymore classics.)

Anything by Christina Gaguilera/XXXtina ('nuff said.)

You're thinking of the Korn version (which isn't new)...I believe Lebeiw is talking about the new Killer Mike version...same name, different song.

Hey, BTW Chaz, do you happen to be the same Chaz from Battle Of The Swims? I know someone's screen name who is "ChazMan622" and was wondering if there was a connection. If you are, this is Mike X :)
