Subject: Celebration USA- Disneys Dream Town

Have people heard about Celebration, a town Disney built outside of there big park in Florida?  My wife was telling me about it and I did some research.  It's a planned city, they started form scratch and built an example of middle all american dream town from the 40's, architecture right out of a Norman Rockwell painting.  Here are two links, one official and one example of what may be wrong with this.  I did some searching and this place is beautiful, in kind of a "Stepford Wives" kinda way.
Would you live there or similar place if you could?  Why or why not?

I've been there.

Last year when we were in Florida on vacation, we went on a time-share tour(you got 4 free Disney tickets after the tour) and our representative took us through Celebration to show us what it was and we also ate lunch at a restaurant in Celebration.  It was amazing.  Its basically a small town with all the basics, school, hospital, hotel, houses, apartments, shopping, etc.  As part of the timeshar tour, other than the free Disney tickets, we were able to tour some of the Celebration homes.  They were also amazing.  The prices ranged anywhere from $700,000-$1 mill+.  It was obvious that a lot of planning went into this town, everything is perfect.  One of the creepy things about it is that basically the whole city is wired with cameras 24/7, and if you live there, you can watch these cameras on your TV.  It was supposed to be a safety measure to keep tabs on your kids, but it is a little much if you ask me.

If you are ever in Orlando and have some spare time, I recommend at least driving through Celebration.

thats funny, we thought the same thing when we were there.  Everything just seemed to perfect and orderly, in a freaky kind of way.

No.  The real estate prices in Celebration are soooo inflated its ridiculous.  Our tour guide told us it was basically a status symbol to live there.  For the same price of living in Celebration, you could buy a huge home just outside of town.

Do they have mice running around (like with the names of Mickey and Minnie)?  ;)

actually, even though it is Disney property, there are not any Disney-ish items there.

I would like to see it, when I did my research the housing prices were'nt to near that level yet.  They did an amazing job planning it out and they have everything a town should have.  Originally the housing was affordable but that changed with demand.  If I'm down there I would definately like to check it out.

Would I live there?  I don't know for sure, if I had children I would definately consider it, just so they could have some freedoms (h'mm... freedom from allowed through monitoring) like riding bikes and playing yards that I had being a kid in the 70s.

one of the homes we toured that sticks in my mind was a large plantation style house that overlooked the golf course.  It had marble floors, crystal chandaliers, etc etc, you know, the works.  Its price was $1.2 million.  It was really nice, but not worth the price.  The same house in, say Indiana, would probably run around $500,000.

But some of the more "modest" models were as low as $700,000.  They also have a street with nothing but apartment-style townhomes.  I can't recall the rent, but I do remember them as being very very high.  Then for the more affordable housing, they have regular apartments too.  The rents for those were around $1200-$2200/month depending on the size, which is not terribly high.

regardless, like most places, you are paying for the location and the privelage to say you are living in Celebration, FL..

After all, you know what they say about real-estate: location, location, location!

Ouch!  Those prices hurt, guess I'll have to stay here, Seattle has high prices but not that much!  It's to bad casue the intent was to make it accessable to many income levels,  they wanted the people who worked in Celebration be able to live there too, I doubt that's the case any longer.

Sure, I have that kind of money sitting around so I can buy a home like that. Don't you?
