Subject: E-Mails Not Meant For Your Gender/Spam in General

Written By: Squirrel on 01/22/03 at 11:37 a.m.

I don't know about you guys and gals, but I'm really tired of opening my e-mails and getting offers to have Viagra delivered discreetly to my door and other ads offering to enlarge areas of my anatomy that I don't even have.

You're told not to click to take yourself off their mailing list because that would cause even more spam...I tell ya, you just can't win.

;D   ;)

You're right, but I sure wouldn't mind losing weight I don't have and enlarging my breasts... :)

Heck, I've thought about getting one of those veterinary degrees in my spare time.  My dog and cat talked me out of it though.   ;)

;D ;DGood one. :D

Seriously though, the email spamming frenzy has gotten way out of control.  At the high point last year, I was getting a minimum 40-50/day!  I finally had to change my email address and learned to never give it out unless I personally know the person I'm giving it to.  Thats seems to be working for now.  I just use a free hotmail account with the filters turned on high.

Believe me, I learned my lesson very quickly giving out my home e-mail address freely.  I use hotmail or yahoo now...and it's nothing for me to get 50-60 or more e-mails a day between the two of them.  Most of them are never even opened, just deleted.

We don't get too many ads (which I am grateful for) but I know a bunch of people who send me all those things that says, "Send this to 10 people you know." I get some of them several times. I just hit, delete, delete, delete. I have told them over and over again NOT to send it to me but they still do. But I will admit, some of them are good. ;)

I just checked my email and of the 103 messages I received since 9 am, 79 of them were deleted right away.  I get stuff on how to pass a drug test, HGH, underage (or barely legal) websites, etc.  Now, I don't do drugs, have no desire to be bigger or look at any naked women (of any age).  I also added 3 more rules, so hopefully, some of the stuff that still gets through won't.

What about regular snail-mail?  I get at least 10-15 pieces of mail a day and most of it is junk mail.  Yesterday, I got 3 offers for Maxim magazine, all in MY name.   ;D

And most of those sappy ones that say send to 1000 of your closest friends say "send it back to me if you really care"....I don't even bother with those either.  Those are worse than spam.    Or how about the ones that say you're gonna die if you don't send it out to other people?  I'm still here.   ;D

Back in the dark ages when I was married, I belonged to a magazine service. I paid one fee and got I don't know how many magazines-all in my name. I figured my husband would probably like a few of them so he got some like Penthouse. Then I moved away but I was still getting his magazines-which were still in my name. At the time, I was single again and recieving Penthouse Magazine. I sure people were really wondering about me.  ;)

I'm glad I'm not the only one getting offers of Viagra, porn, Thai brides etc.

We're thinking of leaving AOL cos we're so fed up with it.  I've never given that address to anyone but I still get tons of junk.

My current favorite is the "Make $10,000 a Week" off the net.  What's cool about this one is the 'ticklers' they're sending me.
Dear... We sent you a letter recently offering you the job of your dream...

Has anyone, ever, in the history of spam actually bought whatever junk or bogus scam was being sold?  I doubt it.

I have a work e-mail account and I haven't been spammed once.  I receive about 20 e-mails a day on the account, but most of them are from inside the company.  I've only used it outside the company to e-mail customer service at UPS.  I don't know if I'm spam free because I haven't used the account to, say, order something off E-Bay, or because of the organizations filters.  I know we have some pretty strict firewalls.

At work our IS dept has put togther a some good protection, I get at least 200 emails a week and very little of it is spam, if there is something sneaking through you let them know and they block it.  Also, there is web places we can't travel now either, but if it's safe and appropriate they can open it up.

Now Fuss.  You know you don't really need a drug for...um...'multiple' stuff.  Just a very skilled partner.  If you're that interested...we'll talk later, K? ;) ;D :o :o

I heard somewhere that when you enter your e-mail address on a website anywhere, you leave yourself open to spam.  The site may not necessarily be selling your address, but a spy program my be illegally harvesting it.

That's why I have a Yahoo address for buying stuff, newsletters ect.  Only four people in the whole world have my home address, and I'm very careful who I give it out to.

I've been job searching online, and I get a lot of SPAM that look like responses fromt the subject line.  I hate that.  It tricks me into opening the darn thing, thinking I can set up an interview.

My question is, who has ever responded to spam, who allows themselves to be swindled by pop-up ads?  I know of no one myself, everyone seems to be angry about it yet it still occurs and business must be paying them for it.  Do you think it is one sucker out there with to much disposable income that's responding and ruining it for the rest of us?  I gotta wonder. ???

I read somewhere that a SPAMmer only needs a 1% response rate to make back his/her initial investment, and make a profit.

And I'm guessing the people who do respond (for everything that's not porn-related) are newbies who don't know any better.  What a way to learn a lesson.

As for porn, there will always be a market for that.  ::)

If I ever find anyone that responds to a pop-up, I'm going to have to take there life.  I'm sorry this seems harsh but really it's for the good of all webkind.

Most of the garbage we get is because my honey likes to sign-up on web-sites thinking that it is "free" but we get bumbarded with all those advertisments. I just go behind him and "unsubscribe."

My mother keeps getting those types of emails and she's never even visited any porn sites. She usually goes on Christian websites!  :P

believe me bagpipe,I had my share of visiting porno sites a few years ago.I felt after a while that it was so stupid just staring at a computer and getting happy at a naked woman.Besides,it was creating too much stuff on my laptop.

Well, I just received an e-mail (which landed in my junk mail folder) for bust enhancement.  I think this is the first time I have ever received an e-mail intended for the opposite sex…

You want the *penis enlargment* spam instead Don?
I mean, I'm 17, female and don't believe in that *inhancement* crap anyway

I've gotten both of them on the same day from the same person.  I don't think they really care.

Why in e-mail do people want me to get a real job? Someone in person could tell me this,I don't need some idiot over the net telling me to get a job and make real money! >:(

I always get Spam telling me how to avoid getting Spammed.  If you are spamming me to sell me anti-spam software, I think you need to find a different marketing tool!  :-/
