Nell Carter (from TV show "Gimme a Break") was found by her son in her home today dead.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. Jan. 23 —
"Gimme a Break!" star Nell Carter, who won an Emmy for playing the sassy, matronly housekeeper on the 1980s sitcom and received a Tony Award in 1978 for her performance in the Broadway musical "Ain't Misbehavin,'" died Thursday, her publicist said. She was 54.
The singer-actress collapsed in her Beverly Hills home and was found by one of her 13-year-old adopted sons, spokesman Roger Lane said.

That's a darn shame. I liked her. She was one of the most personable and down-to-earth people in the celebrity/entertainment industry. She was a national spokesperson for many organizations, lately diabetes. Perhaps that is what took her from our realm.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I do this immitation (not saying it is a GOOD immitation) of her singing the theme song to "Gimme a Break." She will be missed. :'(

I heard someone mentioned her in a conversation at work. But I didn't get all of it. Yes, her far-out humour and singing talent will be missed by all. :'(

Why did this have to happen? Why was she taken from our realm? This is a tragedy for someone who's last TV appearances were on Match Game 1998 and Hollywood Squares. :'( I even used a photo of her as my new signature image, despite being a little too small.
