Subject: Mike Tyson's New Tattoo

Written By: Steve_H on 02/16/03 at 06:00 p.m.

Has anyone seen Mike Tyson lately?  It sounds like he's ailing or something, maybe will have to cancel his uncoming fight.
Has anyone seen his new tattoo?  Got this quote from http://espn.go.com/boxing/news/2003/0216/1509902.html

Tyson's promoter and adviser told the newspaper Saturday that the bout has not been canceled. Tyson's trainer Freddie Roach said Tyson is not in shape.

"(We) had been getting along so well. Everything had been great," Roach told the Review-Journal. "Then all of a sudden, everything stopped. He got the tattoo on his face and he quit coming to the gym. Then he says he doesn't want me to do the road work with him because he's running at 2 in the morning instead of 5 in the morning."

According to the report, the former heavyweight champion's behavior turned odd last week as he started the final preparations for his first fight since he was knocked out by Lennox Lewis in June. Tyson missed at least three training days last week, and had a large tattoo put on the left side of his face during that time.

Roach said the new tattoo is an "African tribal thing'' and covers a large part of Tyson's face.

Roach said he called Tyson on Saturday and Tyson was noncommittal.

::) Mike Tyson,, that guy needs to be ignored and boycottedfrom any fights he has scheduled.  What a freak and really turned me away from boxing.  I remeber him in '85, he was positivley frightening, now his reputation is so tarnished that I'm amazed that he is still promoted.

Of course he is still being promoted. He's a guaranteed payday, Clifford Etienne is going to make 1 million for this fight. We all know that Tyson isn't being promoted as the prize fighter that he once was, but as a freak show, people watch with the hope that he will have another meltdown in the ring.

...it got people talking about him, thus putting him in the spotlight.

Instant promotion.

I think he should have been banned permantly from boxing. But, as usual, money overrules sportmenship.

Looks more like a Maori thing.

Did anyone see "Once Were Warriors"?

My brothers entire outside right calf has a tribal design that bears resemblance to this. I must say it looks a great deal better on my brothers leg than Mike Tysons head. ;)

Aloha. Did he get that done here in Hawaii? He was here training on Maui. But its a Maori tattoo (New Zealand warrior). We paint those on the guys faces for May day.

I think it looks really cool but it doesnt fit him.

And he should not fight... one cuz of the tattoo since its still new. And two he is crazy and sick.

Oh I could go on and on about Mike....but basically what is comes down to is, that he is nothing but a BIG JOKE in the boxing industry.  The Black Rhino is going to pummel him.  I hope he KO's that sissy baby so that we don't have to ever hear from him again!  But thats just MY opinion.

It doesn't help that Tyson is almost certainly bi-polar, has serious anger management issues and, probably wisely, doesn't trust much of anybody in his immediate circle.
I'm not saying "Poor Mike," but I think some of his problems are beyond his control.  We don't decide our brain chemistry, do we?

Well, it couldn't make him any uglier to look at, that's for sure. I actually think the Maori symbol tattooing is a beautiful art form. I also saw the New Zealand movie Once Were Warriors and it was a very disturbing, violent yet excellent film.

49 seconds.  I pity the poor folks who paid $49 for the Showtime telecast but had to go off to pee and missed everything :P
