But they are not "defending our freedom" but rather our economic interests.  I do support them in that I hope for few casualties and their speedy return to home.  I also applaude their professionalism, just not their mission.  I only wish you conservatives could understand the difference.

Does every thread have to be turned into a debate?  Can we please have one thread where no one is trying to convince someone else of their opinions?  This thread is a link to a thank you site.  Can we please leave this one debateless?  Please!?

Thanks dag... I was a little reluctant to post the link because I had the feeling that certain people would be unable to resist the temptation to make a political statement.

I suppose it could be argued, in light of the recent flood of political statements, the mere posting of the link could be a political statement in itself.  In this case the apple didn't fall far from the tree...

Myself, I'm not bothered by it at all.

That was great!  Thanks for the link. I also heard on the "Today Show" that there is a program called "Operation Shoebox" that is really awesome.

I'm not trying to start a debate, but I would like to point out that we are actually less free now. With the advent of the Patriot act and Homeland Security, our civil liberties are slowly being eroded away.

I salute our soldiers. I refuse to salute the men who are sending them to die.

Here's another link that I thought was a good idea.  I have a brother that served in the army and he told me how much it helped to pass the time and take his mind somewhere else for a bit.  Also a little piece of home.

The way I see it, they defend our freedom every day.  Whether we are at war or during peace time, they are there to defend our country.  I support them 110%, no matter what!

But CL, you miss my point.  Of course they are there to defend us, and I too support them.  I read "Dear Abby" in my local paper and participate in her "holiday thing" I contribute to veterans' organizations (when the appeal comes directly from them and not from pro. fund raisers) etc.  As I have said before here and elsewhere, our people in arms deserve all our support.  I just believe that we, as active, involved cit's must support them by making sure that it is ONLY for our defense that we deploy them, not for the economic interests of a few influencial corporations, or contributers to the Republican or Democratic Party.  Supporting them, to me, means funding the Veterans Administration, paying them decent wages, making sure that when they get out they have opportunities...And yes, wishing them well when they have to go into combat.  The question, of course, is when to send them, and to make sure it is for all of our safety, not just for the profits a a few.  If I have ever implied otherwise it was certainly NOT my intent (I have been misunderstood or quoted out of context so many times on this board I had to say that)  ;D

I agree that we should support them, but I honestly do not feel that this war is strictly for "the economic interests of a few influential corporations".  I'm sure that has some part of it, but what about what he has done to his own countrymen?  The US is not the only country that uses their oil.  Just as we are not the only country involved in this war.  I don't know that I fully support the war, but I do support the troops.
