Subject: Columbia U. prof. wants millions of Americans dead

Written By: 80sRocked on 03/31/03 at 06:54 p.m.

This is from a Columbia U. proffessor's speech regarding his opposition to the war, its nothing short of appauling.  I pasted some of the mosre repulsive points, you can read the whole story via the link:

------------------------------------------------------------

A Columbia University professor told thousands of students and faculty that he would like to see "a million Mogadishus" — referring to the 1993 ambush in Somalia that killed 18 Americans and inspired the movie "Black Hawk Down." ...

The professor, Nicholas De Genova, also called for the defeat of U.S. forces in Iraq and said, "The only true heroes are those who find ways that help defeat the U.S. military." And he asserted that Americans who call themselves "patriots" are white supremacists.

De Genova's hopes for the defeat of the United States were cheered by the crowd of 3,000 at the Wednesday night anti-war teach-in, Newsday reported. But his mention of the Somali ambush — "I personally would like to see a million Mogadishus" — was largely met with silence.

And these are the people responsible for enlightening our children! >:( >:( >:(

No wonder so many college kids go into college as normal people, and come out of college as extreme anarchists who suddenly hate their country!  Its no wonder when they have teachers like this guy! >:(

I believe in this country's higher education system.  We have the finest set of universities of any country, and people all over the world come to enjoy our nation's educational benefits.

However, this event in particular is totally, completely disgusting.

NO, HE DOES NOT.  See my post on the yellow ribbons thread.

As to some of the other points about colleges, note that the fool's remarks were met with silence!  It was an assinine thing to say, and aparantly the audience knew it.  Also note that Eric Foner repudiated the statement.

So yeah, the guy is an @$$ hole to be sure, but as Voltaire said "I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it."

Open mouth, insert very large foot. What a freak. Wonder how long it will take for Columbia to fire him? Doesn't matter if the college was affiliated with it or not, there will be tremendous pressure to get rid of him. Bet the organizers wished they had asked him what he was going to say now.  :-/
