Subject: Alice In Chains

Written By: princessofpop on 04/05/03 at 05:14 a.m.

So today it has been one year since Layne passed away.  This saddens me very much for I am a huge fan.  I know there are some other AIC fans here on the board, so I thought we could maybe take this time to list our favorite AIC songs or just say something nice...........

Note:  please refrain from any useless debates in this thread.

I hope his troubled soul is at peace. You know, on the day his body was found, it rained.

Well, isn't that irony.

Of course he was in Seattle at the time.

Whatever, I hope he's happier now wherever he is.

This was a good idea Princess.

I loved No Excuses, Man in the Box, Rooster, God Smack, Would?, and Rain When I Die. but;

My all time favorite AIC song is "Don't Follow", although the lyrics are particularly poignant now:

Quoting:Hey, I ain't never coming home
Hey, I'll just wander my own road
Hey, I can't meet you here tomorrow
Say goodbye don't follow
Misery so hollow

Hey you, you're livin' life full throttle
Hey you, pass me down that bottle, yeah
Hey you, you can't shake me round now
I get so lost and don't know how, yeah
And it hurts to care, I'm going down

Forgot my woman, lost my friends
Things I'd done and where I've been
Sleep in sweat the mirrors cold
See my face it's growin' old
Scared to death no reason why
Do whatever to get me by
Think about the things I said
Read the page it's cold and dead

Take me home (5x)

Say goodbye Don't follow End Quote

When I first heard that song, it was a most difficult time in my life and it tore through me to the tears and emotion, cut me to the bone, made me bleed from it, and yet helped me to rid myself of some grief that I had held in for a long time.

Layne was brilliance, unfortunately, married to misery. I believe he is where that misery cannot follow, in peace.

I heard that one of their members (the drummer, I think?) became a Christian. Is that true?

My favorite AIC song is Whale and Wasp, even though there are no vocals.

I think all the songs mentioned above were great, especially the the ones from Jar Of Flies, which i've been listening to all day.

Alice in Chains had a lot of great tunes, they could pump out some adrenal gland raising music.  The Rooster pumps me to twice my strenght and stamina.  The rage and pain and power of that tune...

"Them Bones."

I've been listening to that song in a furious loop for these past couple of days.

I was never a big Alice in Chains fan, but I am sure I have heard them on the radio and just never connected the band to the song.  It is sad, though, when someone dies so young. :'(
