Subject: "Go Home Human Shields..."

Written By: 80sRocked on 04/14/03 at 04:48 p.m.

These images (2) were taken in the streets of Baghdad after the liberation.  They speak volumes, as far as I'm concerned

The first pic shows 2 Iraqi men holding a sign that originally read "Human Shields", and they converted it to "Go Home Human Shields. You U.S. Wankers".

The second photo shows the crowd taking photos with and thanking U.S. troops.

(apparently I broke a rule or something, so now you have to click the links to see the photos)

Perhaps the Human Shield morons forgot to ask all Iraqis what they wanted.

I'm sure those two guys represent every Iraqi now.  ;D I think the human shields were a stupid idea. Then again, I think the war is still a stupid idea.

Yeah...
I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed that the same people who decried the antiwar protesters as being a minority (approx 2 million in my country) seem quite happy to accept the views of the minority of Iraqis (ie 2 guys with a banner) when it suits them!
Shame on you  ::)

modified to add..
Also shame on the media that gives more exposure to the few Iraqi supporters than to the millions of protesters!

yea, shame on them for showing both sides of the issue, right? ::)

btw, the "few" supporters you speak of consists of nearly 80% of the people here, as of last week.

And regarding the protests, I watched a portion of the LA protest last weekend on C-SPAN, and it was nothing short of laughable.  And I'm not being sarcastic, it was actually embarrassing and laughable.  Hell, judging by some of the asenine signs they were holding, its safe to say nearly 75% of them weren't even there to protest the war.  The organizers got their TV face-time, and that seems like their only concern lately.

Be careful when basing your point on camera shots. I was amused when I saw an airial shot of the "massive demonstration of freedom" in Baghdad when the statue of Saddam was toppled, and found that there were only about 30 or 40 Iraqis surrounding the statue. From the camera shots on CNN and the network's nightly news broadcasts, you were led to believe it was a crowd of thousands of jubilent, liberated people. So when the camera shots "speak volumes as far as you're concerned" you might try adjusting the balance on your system. :-/ Catch my drift?

You applaud a sign you saw on television that someone is holding up in your initial post and then laugh at signs at the peace gatherings you saw on television? Find a new source to back up your point. ::)

in March my city had a pro-troops/pro-America rally.  We had over 20,000 people in attendance.  Across town there was a pathetic anti-war thing, with a whopping 28 people.  Guess who CNN went to.  It sure wasn't us.  They even had a camera crew at our 20,000 person pro-troops rally, but decided the 28-person anti-war deal was more "news-worthy".

Last weekend in Clearwater, FL they had another pro-troops rally, again with over 20,000 people.  You think CNN, or any network(other than FOX) showed it?  No way.

Last month CNN showed what they described as a "massive" anti-war demonstration in (the city escapes me), they called it massive, but the local police estimated approximately 200-400 people.

Last weekend at the LA protest, they showed the crowd several times, towards the latter part of the protest, there were only a handful of people there.  Most of them were just people walking around to see what was happening.

Hell until 2 weeks ago, when the anti-war folks and certain news networks started realizing this war didn't end in the disaster some were predicting, CNN and other certain networks were dedicating nearly 15 mins/hour all day and every day to nothing but anti-war demonstrations, while the pro-troops/pro-America rallies were lucky to be mention in the news ticker at the bottom of the screen.  Have you noticed the anti-war demonstrations have dramatically decreased lately?  Perhaps the anti-war crowd are finally starting to get it.

I could go on...

I'm sorry but some of the signs we see at the so-called "peace" gatherings are hilarious!  They prove many of them aren't there to protest the war at all, but rather their utter hatred of Bush, SUV's, Gap Stores(and others), meat-eaters, and anything that is Right-wing related and not extreme radical Leftist.  And I'm not exaggerating or being sarcastic, watch some of the protests, these signs are hilarious.  And all that is fine and is certainly their right, but their effort becomes laughable when the speakers and signs at these so-called "peace gatherings" encourage lying down in traffic, disrupting peace, breaking windows, throwing chairs, bottles and rocks at police, and storming businesses, etc etc (like the infamous San Francisco "vomit-in" ::)).

And if by "find a new source to back up your point" you are referring to the fact those pics were screen caps from the evil-doers at FOX News, keep in mind virtually every network, both foreign and domestic, showed those same pics, not just FOX News.

Just a question.

If you think that CNN is paying more attention to the anti-war protesters, and FOX pays more attention to pro-America demonstrators, than why don't you take your own advice and watch both, and get stories from both sides of the debate?

Just an opinion, but from what i've been able to gather, the Iraqi people might be happy that the US and Brits have removed Saddam from power, but they want to make sure that the US does not overstay their welcome.

I do.

But I am tired of hearing the anti-war crowd whining about not getting any coverage too, but thats a story for another day. :)

...and naturally.  Nobody is denying that.

However, we need to be certain that we don't leave too soon, leaving the Iraqis to fend for themselves, like in 1991.
