Bucket of bones found in cave

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

COLFAX, Wash. -- Three women hikers found a bucket of human bones Tuesday while exploring a cave in a remote area about 20 miles northwest of Colfax.

The women had come from the East Coast to see their father, who has a farm near Lancaster.

They were walking on a neighbor's land when they walked about 15 feet inside the cave Tuesday evening, Whitman County officials said.

There they found a white 5-gallon bucket containing a skull and most of a human skeleton. Officials don't suspect foul play and say the remains could be a century old or older.

County Sheriff Brett Myers said the remains appear to come from an older male. The teeth looked worn, like an older person's, but there were no fillings, he said.

The most mysterious part of the discovery is not the bones, but how they got into a bucket and into the cave, Myers said.

"It's an old white bucket and it could be as many as 10 or 20 years old. It's not a very deep cave, but it's very remote," Myers said Wednesday.

The hikers picked up the bucket and carried it two miles home and then notified the authorities.

"They didn't know whether it was a recent death or not," Myers said. "They felt that the loved ones would want to know that the bones had been recovered."

Normally, if people find human remains, they should leave them and notify authorities, Myers said.

The county coroner will examine the remains. When he finishes, he will send them to forensic specialists to determine their age and ethnic origin

Truth is DJ, I saw PoP's found skull posting than ran across this story in my local paper and thought "Hey!"  We can have a lost and found department, or if know one claims the bones, perhaps a swapmeet or "bone bazaar." :D
With the flesh eating children scampering about we may have some new ones coming in on a regular basis. ;)

I once saw a thing on the lost and found at Grand Cental Station in NYC. They said that once they found someone's ashes. Come to find out, some woman left them on a train purposely. It seems her husband was having an affair on her and was taking the train to meet his mistress. She thought it was only fitting that when he died, he should be left on the train.

That is a woman with a clear sense of purpose.  A fitting end to his end.

Just to let everyone know here that if I die anytime soon, Autumn is going to cremate and mix me into some pottery.  Perhaps the CeramicsFanatic could make a nice mug?
It's better than throwing me to those pesky flesh eating children.

Cat, maybe we should make this a seperate thread?
