Subject: Declining CD sales

Written By: Tv on 05/04/03 at 09:33 p.m.

CD sales have been decling the last few years. Is it because of the internet where you can download just about any song or just boring music that has led to declining CD sales over the last fww years. I mean some artists have gone double platinum or more the last few years: Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, and Usher. Rock bands haven't been going double platinum or more I think because in most part because rock fans download music the most. Rap music is just a joke now so thats the reason for that genre's declining sales. Those are my opinions. Anyone else care to comment?

All I can say is that it serves the record companies right! >:(
as for the type of genre loosing sales, I can agree with rap going down first, it seems that everything is sampled these days

The record companies will find a way to recover. In the meantime, with sales declining, a lots of bands and artists will get dumped by their labels in an effort to cut losses. So it won't be the companies that get hurt. It will be the people making the music. So don't steal it! Your friend's band might be the one getting hurt.

I think part of it has to do with the prices the record companies charge for CD's.  As far as genre goes, I don't really know.  I don't think most of the decline has been caused by the internet, though I'm sure the record companies will blame it for the ENTIRE drop.  Maybe if there were more "original" acts around these days...

i seem to be the opposite...in the past year, i've bought more cds than downloaded music.  (and as a result, i'm broke. ::) )  granted, i don't use a file-sharing platform and the stuff i listen to is wicked hard to find elsewhere...ah well.  maybe if cds weren't so expensive, the record companies wouldn't be having so many copyright issues... >:(
