Subject: Level Orange

Written By: southernspitfire on 05/20/03 at 08:59 p.m.

We, as Americans, are put back on High Alert with a threat of attack within the next 48 hours.  The places that seem most probable to be attacked are New York, Boston or DC.

What do you think about this?  Time to really get scared again or just another thing from the government to keep us on eggshells??

I suppose we should pay attention and be ready, but how?And what do we do if something happens? Duct tape?? ?? And I sure wish they could be a bit more specific about what we are  supposed to be watching for?  :(

they tried that one after Sept. 11, and as a result they were accused of hiding everything and keeping too many secrets.

I don't think that's true, I mean there were hundreds of terrorist attacks foiled between 1991-2000 and we didn't here about them.

we don't need to be put on high alert whenever "chatter increases" the general population is sick of this. Perpetual war must end soon, we can't have some futile struggle vs. international terrorism as the top headline for the rest of our lives.

after Sept. 11 it was all-a-buzz that "Bush Knew this" and "Bush hid this" blah blah.

As a result, the public demanded that the government be more open with the terrorist warnings and threats.  So they introduced the color codes to satisfy them(which yes are kinda stupid and vague) and now the same public is complaining they are tired of it.

I guarantee you if they got rid of the color codes and public terrorist threat updates, the same people who once criticised them for being "too secretive" would then compain they aren't being open enough again.

Its a never-ending cycle.

it was inevitable that we reacted like this to 9/11. But this color coding thing is just something else to worry about, and in the long run the general public does not want more worries.

I'd rather they just do there business quietly, I think it's better that way. Bush or Ridge can give updates periodically to satisfy the media but I'm really tired of war 24/7

as am I.

And beleive me, if it were up to me it would be that way.

However, they were chastised for doing just that.  I see what you are saying about our reaction to 9/11, but there is no way in hades some people would let them "do their business quietly" in this day and age.  As soon as they did, people would be demanding more information.

Thats the way it is.  Sadly enough.

Once again.....fighter jets & black helicopters woke me up in the middle of the night. They must be just circling DC around & around & around.... ::)

Glad I already got my grocery shopping done, because I bet after today, there won't be one loaf of bread or any canned food to be found!

(See this the the typical attitude of a native Washingtonian----I'm not so much worried about an attack, I'm worried that there is no friggin' food left on the shelves)  >:( ;D

I think that the alerts are ridiculous.  IMO the terrorists are "chattering" just to watch the people in the US panic.
