Local hero?

You mean the guy who was in favor segregation?

Then changed from a Democrat to a staunch Republican?

I feel for his family.  But Strom's passing, well, it's not that great a loss to the world.

Hee hee...transgressions aside, the man was a STUD!  I don't know if it was because he was a high powered senator or just a raging sex machine but he puts Michael Douglas and Harrison Ford to shame in terms of bagging the young ones :D

Strom was a ladies man?!?!?

Well, he was a USA Senator.  They get money and chicks.

But so much for his family values stuff.

But if he was that much of a stud I guess he wasn't all bad.

No talk of the power changes in the Senate in the news yet.  Like who will replace Strom.

I'm confused, and maybe I got it wrong, but self proclaimed conservatives have reviled Bill Clinton because HE is also a stud, and yet it was ok the Strom was?  No one investigated Strom, so we don;t know where he "got it" but suppose it was in his Senate office?  Sorry, but do I detect a certian double standart here?
Just a question.

Why yes ringer, don't you remember his walking at the head of the parade in support of gay rights? And that awe-inspiring speech of his in opposition to the 2000 election debacle? Or the one about how killing innocent Afghans and Iraqis wouldn't be the way to avenge the victims of 9/11?

  Long live the political chameleon!

Here in South Carolina he is a local hero (There are High schools, Lakes, and many other things named after him).  He did change his segregation views and supported Clarence Thomas. Maybe you should learn/update your facts.

I never cared for the guy too much, but I am sorry to hear he died. As for all the talk about him being a ladies man, I guess that is how it used to be for many politicians. It was only Bill Clinton who went through the media circus. I guess back them the media was more respectful of privacy.

Is there something THAT wrong with a minority who doesn't favor affirmative action?

So Voting against afirmative action Changes the color of your skin?  Interesting.  I bet he was Just tired of certain groups getting special treatment because of skin color.  Afirmative action suporters are the true racists.  Their the ones always trying to divide people.

Maybe a bit off topic, but I am conflicted. For example, can't schools like the University of Michigan just hire a few dozen more teachers, so they can admit all qualified applicants? I think it would suck for a white person with better scores/grades to lose their spot just because they are white and the school decided they wanted some minorities. At the same time I think minorities who come from rough neighborhoods with bad schools should be given some slack, they had to work harder. What I would not like to see is Bill Cosby's kid get an extra 20 points out of 100 for admissions because he is black. I dunno what the solution to the problem is.

Modified to add:

Oh, I forgot to mention at the University of Michigan your SAT scores only account for 17 out of 100 points.
