Subject: Barry White died this morning

Written By: Willie on 07/04/03 at 04:54 p.m.

I had just found out on one of our newschannels down here in Mississippi. The newsman said that Barry White died 9:30 this morning because of a kidney failure. He was 58. :'(

He came out with songs like, "Practice what you Preach."

The man had a fantastic voice.

I don't know many Barry White songs other than Love's Theme. But let me tell you, he had one of the deepest voices I have ever heard from anybody. Now I see why nobody has ever really covered any of his songs. He just had a unique voice and he made a huge impact on music forever. Will there still be love after this tragedy? Who will be the new King of Luuuuv? :(

Barry White was totally awesome.

He will be missed, yet he will live on and on through his magnificent music.

And the world is a sadder place because of it. RIP Barry. :'(
(BTW, Barry had been sick a long time since his kidneys were failing. One of my favorite songs of his was "It's Ecstacy When You Lay Down Next To Me".)

I knew the man was in a poor-ish state of health since last year - I think there was a rumour going around that he was close to death even then...but now, he is finally gone...

He certainly was a pioneer of sorts - one of the first major R'n'B stars to not only write and sing, but to orchestrate, arrange and produce as well - certainly a consummate performer...and, of course, that voice...

At least we still have his output to remember him by...RIP

I like the 2000 remix of You see The Trouble With Me. Barry White was known as Black Legend when that song was released.

I liked him very much, especially his commercials. He did one for Rax (or Arby's; can't remember) and one for Kellogg's Special K Red Berries. He had such a smooth voice that was a little gravelly, yet like velvet at the same time. He will be greatly missed.

Oh, and I liked Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe, too.

How about guys like:

Teddy Pendergrass
El Debarge
Michael Jackson
James Ingram
Luther Vandross

Out of these 5,which would you have considered to be the 2nd best "LoveMan"?

For me, it's a toss-up between Luther Vandross & James Ingram. I really liked Luther Vandross' duet with Celine Dion (When I Fall In Love; he reminds me of Nat King Cole), but on the other hand I like Baby Come to Me and I Don't Have The Heart To Hurt You by James Ingram. He has a gentle, yet very sexy voice.

Luther!

Have you ever heard the ballad "Secret Garden" with White, DeBarge and Ingram? It's on Quincy Jones' Back on the Block album.
