Subject: A Question for the Americans, i spose

Written By: Hoeveel on 07/08/03 at 07:58 p.m.

What's a blood-drive? I thought originally it was some sort of violent kind of witch-hunt or race-riot type thing from the name, but i've seen it written in a few more places and it looks more like it means some event where people are encouraged to give blood...  ???  :-/  ::)

Yup.  That's a blood drive.
"Drives" usually refer to outside solicitations attended by medical personnel in travelling "Bloodmobiles" which temporarily anchor themselves for a few hours at churches, schools, non-profit organizations & private corporations--- rather than 'draining a pint' at the offices of the Red Cross, Community Blood Centres, and the like.

Personally, I never gave blood myself. I tried one time but they couldn't even get the needle into me because I really have an accute case of "needleitis" and I started hyperventilating, my heart was pounding, and I started crying. I just don't handle needles very well. I guess I could never be a junkie.  ;)
