I'm not Jewish, but I find the term "jew them down" offensive.  Just as would find "spic them down" or "Mik them down" or "dago them down" etc.  Hope HairSpray sees this and edits it.  NOT ACCEPTABLE.  "bargain" them down would be much more appropriate.

"Gyp" is short for gypsy, no?  Your very dry humor could get you into trouble  ;)

Yes, it comes from the idea that gypsies would try to sell you low-quality items for more than they are worth, or 'gyp you'.

My last canine friend, Hoover (yes, after the vacuum cleaner, he would eat ANYTHING - Hide the kitty litter - disgusting) told me it was short for "I am a wolf, or wanna be"  ;)  ;D
