Happy Birthday Dole!! He was one of the few republicans I liked. At least he went to war and did not hide behind rich relatives. I hope he sees another 80 years!

::)

John, I posted a light-hearted topic in hopes that it wouldn't be littered with your usual "I hate Republicans" political instert.  I guess even that was asking too much of you to hold back at least once in a thread about a man's 80th freakin birthday.

Oh, I see how it is. Since I am a democrat I guess my well wishes do not count. And since when was it wrong to identify someone from the other side of the political spectrum as honorable? At least with Dole, to the best of my knowledge, you do not get blatent lies. He lets his yes's be yes and his no's be no. Much better than what we have right now in congress.

Anywyas, my comment stands. Happy Birthday Dole!

John, thats nice you gave him your well wishes, but lest not forget your little "tongue-in-cheek" insert:

Is that what you would write in his b-day card? ::)

Oh trust me, I saw it.  And it was disgraceful, to say the least.

I liked Bob Dole. Now that he is out of the spotlight, he has a sense of humor about himself.

"I don't go around saying 'Bob Dole does this' or 'Bob Dole does that'. That's just not something Bob Dole does."

Him and Al Gore should go back on SNL. Both were hilarious! Happy B-day Dole!

Thorm was a disgrace. I bet ya he is with Saddam's boys right now. I bet they are suprised they get him instead of the 72 virgins.

Strom wasn't a disgrace...

just because in his early years he may have been raciest doesn't mean he was a bad guy.  Like I said before, are you gonna punish everybody who followed something bad, but was known as being good for that time period?  Seriously...Strom was the man!

If he was the follower, then who was the leader? He was a member of congress. He was the one voting for all sorts of horrible stuff. If you think what he did was okay, I would ask some black people in their 50's or 60's who lived while he legislated. I bet they will have some stories to tell you.

John Seminal:

In Thurmond's early days of politics, he was a racist segregating type, thats a given.

But, I ask you John, do you hate a person for their past, or for what they are today?

An argument could be made that Strom made a huge turnaround since his segragationist past.  After all, if you can forgive KKK member Democratic Senator Robert Byrd (who btw was a critic of Thurmond, figure that one out ???), you can certainly forgive Strom Thurmond for his past.   ;)

But, I digress, enough about Thurmond.  This thread is about Bob Dole's 80th B-Day. :)

Hey, I'll second that idea.

Both Dole and Gore were pretty funny on SNL.

I missed both of them. But I did see some of the Dole commercials and parodies. Very funny. I would like to see him get involved in politics again in some manner. I think he would make a good watchdog. God knows he has his opinions, but he seems to be impartial when it counts.

Dole had made several appearences on SNL, all funny and in good spirit.

Gore's performance as host was really funny, for a politician.
