Subject: "Spy Kids" 3-D

Written By: Hairspray on 07/27/03 at 01:51 p.m.

I found it to be quite entertaining! :)

It was nice to see a 3-D film again and wear those glasses. I think the last time I saw a 3-D movie in a theater was when  Jaws 3 was released back in the 80's. :o

Anyway, "Spy Kids" 3-D had a cool cyber-race and a surprise cameo. ;)

I don't know if I liked Sylvester Stallone in that role, nor in a movie that underplays his strengths as an actor, but it's nice to see him on the big screen just the same. I admire and respect him because he is one of the few actors who's truly worked very hard in the industry. :)

I thought it was terribly cheesy.  :-/
Especially my cousin's 8 year old nephew didn't like it.  :-/
He claimed that all of today's Summer movies are the same.

For myself, it was cheesy. The kid actors didn't have the "magic" like Daniel Radcliff has in the "Harry Potter" movies.
(No pun intended)

And for the "suprise cameo"...

I had the same feeling when I saw "Legally Blonde II".
What is (Insert serious actor/actress' name) doing here!?!

It reminded me of "The Matrix", which I also didn't like.

Perhaps I'm not much of a fan of "Full Out" special effects.
Nor a fan of "kiddie flicks".  :-/

Though I did liked "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle".
Despite that it was also cheesy with the slow mo' "Matrix" like effects. I don't know why do they have to hover in the air in fighting scenes?  :P It makes "Tron" look like gritty realism.

BTW, "Charlie's Angles: Full Throttle", "Legally Blonde II: Red White and Blue", and "Spy Kids 3-D" are the only films I saw and 2/3 (Legally Blonde II & Spy Kids 3-D)were awful.  :P
And one was mainly mediocre (Charlie's Angle's: Full Throttle). I liked the original film better.

My neice and nepwhew are dying to see this movie.  So, being the good uncle I am, it looks like I will be taking them this weekend.  (ok, I admit thats not the only reason.  I want to see a new 3-D movie too, its been a while since Jaws 3-D  :D)

As far as it being a bit cheesy, well it is a kid movie, so a bit of cheesy-ness should always be expected and it is not necessarily a bad thing. :)

IMO, there's no way "Spy Kids" 3-D should be deemed "awful".

The fairest opinions will be from those who do enjoy kid movies and know what to expect from them in the first place.

80sRocked,

You are a pretty cool uncle and you should get kudos for that. 8)

I saw it and I guess it was okay, but the only really good 3D effect was when the butterfly came out of the screen.

I think Spy-Kids is dumb, and there is no point to it. Personally I feel it was a waste of money and time. And I have no idea who would waste money to watch it. The glasses probly don't even work!

That movie got on my last nerves. It was my best friend's birthday and we were going to see multiple movies. The three of us (another friend) were going to see Freddy vs. Jason, but of course I was 16 and they wouldn't let me in. So while my other friend went to see freddy vs. Jason, my best friend dragged me to see Spy Kids. Not only were the glasses a pain but so was the story and dialouge. Being a screenwriter myself I quickly notice the lack of story planning and value.
This movie destroyed one hour and thirty minutes of my life, But Hey, it was his birthday.

It's just entertainment for kids as it was meant to be - Nothing more, nothing less.

Which means you didn't even see it.

By the way, the glasses did work.

Uhhh, no offense, but you need to lighten up.

It was a kids movie.  I took my neice and nephew to see it and I liked it.  It was fun.  They loved it, and I enjoyed it myself.

PS-  If you are a screenwriter, you would recognise this movie wasnt meant to be a masterpiece by any means, but rather a kids movie.  Nothing more.

Lighten up. ;)

I understand what you're saying, but even though it a child's movie doesn't mean you should lack substance. Every movie should be made to be a "masterpiece" that's how Disney stays on top of it's game.

I've enjoyed great kids movies, that I would say are better than most "adult" movies. This movie just seemed it was whipped together in a week. This one bites for a "PG" movie.

I can name several movies that suck big time, and this one isn't on that list.

I think you missed the whole point of this movie.  Did you see the first one?  Hardly a masterpiece, but entertaining.  I think you were expecting too much out of this movie.  Personally, I expected a fun and entertaining kids movie, and thats what I got.

No more, no less.

But...if you hated it, thats fine. Thats your opinion. :)
