So if it's the 00s then how exactly are you supposed to say it? Do you say it as "the zeros?" Because that just sounds really weird!! ???

Well, i used to say the 'Noughties' until i saw someone on here use 'Aughties' which i thought was better. I'm pretty sure there is a mathmatical term for integers with a lower value than ten but i have no clue about how to go about looking for it.

For 2000, I just refer to it as "2000".
But for the years after that so far, I think its common to just refer to them as '01, '02, '03...as if you were saying the letter O followed by the number.
Now when we get to 2010 and beyond, that will be a bit more difficult. :)

I think for the decade the 2000s sound ok to me. Then of course you will have the teens, 20s, 30, etc. But calling it "aughts" just sounds too weird.

the twenty-ohs, twenty oh-one, twenty oh-two, twenty oh-three...
bah, the 90's sound so much better, and since pop culture is still stuck in the late 90's, let's just call this year NINETEEN-NINETY-THIRTEEN.

i just say the "two thousands." sounds funny, but i can't get used to saying "twenty-oh-three."
