Subject: Get paid to go to church (if you are white)

Written By: John_Seminal on 08/04/03 at 08:46 p.m.

Has anyone heard about this? A black church with about 5,000 members is paying any whites who come to services. They want to diversify the congregation.

Not only is it racist, but it's bribery and does not belong in church.

I do not think it is racist for one reason only. The congregation decided to do it as a whole. Would it be racist if some whites got together, went into a black ghetto, and decided to fix up a few homes, add some lighting, and do a good service? The end point is: what he does comes from a place of love, i think.

As for it not belonging in a Church, I think one of the parables says to minister to others. This is his way of spreading the word. It is not like he is holding a gun to anyones head. He is offering people 5 dollars an hour to hear him out. They can walk out any time they want. Obviously the minister believes so strongly in what he is saying he is betting the $5 that the new members will keep comming back.

so if a group of people decide to do something its not racist?  Does that mean since there were so many people that beleived that slavery was ok, it wasnt racism?

Yes but paying people to go to church is just degrading the Gospel.  Sure, maybe it's a GREAT way to get people to come, but where will their minds and hearts be set?
Now I did hear that there were some people who wouldn't take the money. They just wanted to hear the preaching.

Black people should not have to pay whites to go to their church. They both worship the same God. If people want to desegregate their church, they should pray that churchgoers of all races will come with the right heart. Why should money and/or the race of the regulars be the main reason to join?

I agree nobody should be paid to go. But I see where the minister is comming from. If anything, he is getting publicity, and I bet some will go just out of curiousity. Who knows, maybe a few of them will like it and decide to stay.

The black/white issue should be irrelevent.

I am by no means a scholar of the bible, but I was raised in a christian family and I remember two sunday school lessons. When in rome, do like the romans, and the parable about the three bags of gold.
