alright, I couldnt contribute anything to the other to threads on covers because it wold have been too hard to differentiate.....there are of course covers that are plain awful, but there are covers that are good, whether theyre better than the original, equal to it, or not as good, but still amazing...there are also a bunch that I bet you didnt even though were covers........

There are people that beleive that a cover should only be done if the style that it is beign redone in is completely different than the original (ie, GNR's Knocking on heavens door) or if the first time the song was made, it wasnt done to its potential.....I disagree slightly...but this opens up to the ability to ruin perfectly good songs....anyway, Im just gonna run down a few covers

It aint me babe-Originaly by Bob Dylan, covered by the Turtles......The turtles version is better than Dylans, but Dylans is still good in its own way...its different...but I guess Im partial tot he turtles because I knew that version way before I knew Dylans
You Keep me hanging on-Originally by the Supremes, covered by the Vanilla Fdge,a nd then Kim Wilde....The Vanilla Fudges is the best, the Supremes is amazing too, but Kim WIldes is awful.......
Dazed and Confused-Orignally by the Yardbirds (yes!) covered by Led Zeppelin-Zeps is a classic, but the Yardbirds is even better.....it is amazing...and its only live..there was not a studio version of it because they broke up before they could record it....then Page took it to Zep with him
Heros-Originally by Davie Bowie, covered by the Wallflowers-Wallflowers version is better...Bowies is good though
Tainted love-Orignally by Gloria Jones, covered by Soft Cell-Im sorry, but Soft Cells is the classic
This magic moment-orignally by the Drifters, covered by Jay and the Americans-two different stlyes (slightly), both amazing
Sloop John B-Originally by the Kingston Trio, covered by the Beach Boys, and many others-Beach Boys the best
Susie Q-originally by Dale Hawkins, covered by CCR-CCr's better, but Hawkins sounds just as good
Respect-Originally by Otis Redding, covered by Aretha Franklin-Aretha's is the classic, but Otis should be getting more credit for writting it
Youve got to hide your love away-Originally by the Beatles, covered by Silke and Eddie Vedder-Im sorry, but Vedders is the best in my opinion
Once Bitten twice shy-Originally by Ian Hunter, covered by Great White...Ians is amazing, but Great Whites is the best
The tide is high-Originally by the Paragons, covered by Blondie-Different styles completely...the Paragons did a doo-wop version, but Blondies did that calypsoish rock version and did it great
You better run-Originallybu the Young Rascals, covered by Pat Benatar-Pats is better
Blinded by the light-Originally by Bruce Springsteen and the E street band, covered by Manford Man's Earth Band-MM's is just plain out better..I dislike Bruces version..thats weird, but I dislike it
