Subject: Pennington Second Big Name QB To Suffer Injury

Written By: Indy Gent on 08/24/03 at 08:33 p.m.

First, Atlanta Falcon Michael Vick breaks his leg and is lost, probably for the 2003 Football season. Now, New York Jets' projected starting quarterback Chad Pennington suffers a broken wrist on his left side and could be out up to 12 weeks. I'd hate to be either Doug Johnson or Vinnie Testaverde right now. Or maybe the experience will work out for both. Any thoughts?

I'm a Jets fan and like every year something bad happens to them either during the season or before the season. I don't know what it is. Testarverde isn't the worst quarterback but he's not the quarterback he was with that MVP type year he had with the Ravens(forgot what year that was either 1995 or 1996.) He had a great year with the Jets in 1998. Hasn't been the same since(could be the injury he had in the 99 season opener against the New England Patriots.) He showed flashes of being in his 1998 form back in 2000 when the Jets came back in that Monday Night Game against the Dolphins in one of the best comebacks ever in NFL History. Chad Pennington had one of the best years a quarterback has ever had in NFL history last year. If Testaverde can throw the ball effectively and offensive coordinator Paul Hacket can adjust game plans to Vinny's strong suits the Jets will be fine. If not it will be a long year.  If the Jets adjust game plans to Vinny's strong suits expect 10 wins. If not expect 7-8 wins. The Jets were a super bowl team this year before Pennington's injury.

For the Falcons they are not like the Jets and they don't have a Curtis Martin, John Abarham, or a Santana Moss on that team. Michael Vick is the most important player to his team in the NFL. The Falcons will have a long year. Expect 4-6 wins from the Falcons this year.

Always been a Jets fan, i seen Chad fall & then they showed a whole bunch of replays and it didn`t realy look that bad, hopefully its not as bad as they say it is,   :-/  at least it was his left hand :)

The replay they showed on TV it didn't look bad but it was at the angle that his hand hit the turf that made the injury bad.

Pennington will be out for 12 weeks. If he has to miss the rest of the season thats fine. He's the future of this team so he shouldn't rush back to play this year just for the sake of being out there. Hate to see him re-injure himpself and come back in like week 14 and just make the injury that much worse.

I don't know in the New York Area they all say how the Jets are cursed. In 1986 they started out like 10-1 and then everybody got injured and they dropped 5 straight games at the end of the year. Eventually lost to Cleveland in the 2nd round of the playoffs. In 99 they were supposed to go to the Super Bowl and then Testaverde got injured in the opener. They also have lost excellent wide recievers like Keyshawn Johnson and Laverneous Coles in the past 4 years due to contract complications. I think one of the reasons for Testaverde's decline in play was there was no Keyshawn Johnson to throw the ball to in the 2000 and 2001 seasons. We all know him and Keyshawn had good chemistry on the field.

Micheael Vick's injury sucks. Even though i'm not a fan of the Falcons he is without a doubt the most exciting player in the game right now.

Of course I blame it all on the John Madden curse >:(

DAMN YOU MADDEN!
