Who do you like this year and do you think the bcs will blow it yet again at seasons end ??? Only one of my three teams is ranked so far...Colorado State...which I hope that the Colorado Buffaloes can finally stampede tonight at Invesco Field at Mile High in Denver....Go Buffs :D

I'm curious as to how you think the BCS has blown it.  Not that I disagree with you but just want to hear your take.
I like USC and Miami.

It was just a blatant mistake back in 2001 when Nebraska, after losing to Colorado 62-36,  and NOT even winning the Big 12 North Division....they were placed in the bcs Championship game against Miami...where they were soundly spanked.  Being a Colorado fan I STILL think Oregon should've been in there and not the Cornhuskers.  Anyway, what a game last night...The Buffs won 42-35 over big mouth Bradlee Van Pelt and Colorado State :)

Knowing that USC hammered Auburn 23-0 at their place, look for the top 25 to be active this year. And Kansas State, with their usual cupcake laden schedule, should not be in the Top 25, let alone the Top 10. I look for Oklahoma to dominate, but watch out for Nebraska, since their unranked for the first time in awhile and have virtually nothing to lose.

I agree with that.  Nebraska had no business in that BCS game just like Florida St. had no business in it the year before.  Last year they got the teams right but a referee had to taint it at the end instead of swallowing his whistle.

in the ACC unfortunately FSU will win again, and they still won't be as good as they were in the 90s, but at least they shouldn't go undefeated. Virginia will Challenge them, might even beat them, but I think Virginia will lose games they shouldnt(some of the sophomores won't live up to their freshman year perfomances)

the SEC championship should be Tennessee vs Auburn
the Big12 championship should be Kansas State vs Oklahoma
the Big10 champ should be Michigan
The Pac10 champ wont matter because they will never win a BCS championship.
the Big East Champ should be Virginia Tech

Indiana 17, Michigan 34  :( (Knew that would happen)

Ball State 29, Boston College 53  :( (Again, not totally unexpected.)

Butter Butler got pounced again yesterday. Now they're 0-4 and are looking forward for basketball to start.

I assure you, Rock and Pluto, it won't happen. The Sooners are too strong and too hungry for the Little Red. But they might win the Eastern Division are give the Sooners all they can handle, thanks to a weak schedule with several home games. But I hope K-State whips the Huskers, but I wouldn't count on it with the I-AA worthy schedule they had. :(

Why do you think Washington is more deserving than the Huskers were?  Washington and Miami both played Nebraska in 1991 and I remember Osbourne being quoted saying "Washington isn't in the same ballpark as Miami."  This after Miami shutout Nebraska 22-0 and never let them advance past their 30 yard line.

I'm not talking about this year.  I mean in '97.  It's not Nebraska's fault that their conference was weaker back then with OU having all those off years.  Don't you agree that there are at least a few tough teams in their conference?  I will grant you that they always have weak nonconference foes.  That still doesn't explain how Washington was more deserving of a shared title in '91.  The PAC-10 wasn't exactly a powerhouse conference that year.  Arizona and Cal were decent but other than that...

Subject: Re: College Football Season....Part 1

Written By: Indy Gent on 10/03/03 at 11:51 a.m.

Because Washington had a stronger RPI than either Nebraska or Miami had. The two teams have always had weak schedules since Notre Dame was taken off of Miami's then the "Canes joined the weak Big East, and Nebraska was part of the then Big 12 Conference, not a strong conference back then. The Pac 10 had several ranked teams in 1997. That they never had a outright champion since 1969 isn't the point here.

That makes sense.  I wasn't sure of who Washington played that season (as far as tough teams) other than Nebraska but was referring to the state of the PAC10 back in 1991 and how the Huskies wouldn't of faced much resistance.  I am by no means a Nebraska fan but I do like Miami.  It sucked when Miami joined the weak Big East and Notre Dame was no longer on their schedule.  What a rivalry that was!

I share your frustration as far as certain teams being favored by the polls and what not.  I also get frustrated at teams getting too much praise early in the season.  Last night I had to hear Mark May and Trev Alberts hail Jason White as a Heisman candidate  ::)
They went on and on about how many points the OU offense has been scoring.  Of course they've been scoring points.  Look who they've played so far.  Alabama is the only team that could be called decent (I guess).  Lets see how White and OU performs against some real competition.  If they blow Texas off the field than I'll be impressed.

USC 45, Notre Dame 14 (I thought the Irish had turned the corner, but the Trojans must be a much better team.  :()
Miami (Ohio) 49, Ball State 3 (Ditto for the Red Hawks and Cards :()

Well I think Colorado has played well for most of the season, having given Oklahoma and Texas Tech a run for their money. I am dissappointed with CSU this year, and Air Force lost to a pretty good Utah team. IU and ND seem to be rolling over and playing dead against even mediocre teams. I'm just thankful Purdue is having a good season, even though they might lose to Iowa and/or Ohio State the next two weeks. :-/

I wasn't criticizing the refs, I was harping on the players ;D

They missed two field goals, had to settle for field goals twice inside the 5 yard line, could not capitalize on a botched punt return, and kept passing when they should have run the football to tire the Husky defense even more.

And the refs didn't let them have much fun either...unsportsmanlike conduct my foot :P

Hey Dagwood!  I was happy to see the Utes beat those morons from provo...especially IN provo, and the fact they handed B.Y.Pew thier first shutout since 1975!  Here's a little joke for ya:
Four college football fans go rock climbing one
afternoon:
A Utah fan, a BYU fan, a Colorado State fan, and a
Wyoming fan.  They had been arguing all the way up the
mountain about who among them loved their team more
and was the most "die-hard" fan. The argument grew
hotter and hotter, and the four fans grew more and
more agitated. Such was the emotion that upon reaching
the top of the mountain, the Wyoming fan proclaimed
loudly and earnestly to the other three, "THIS IS FOR
THE WYOMING COWBOYS!" and without a moment's
hesitation threw himself off the mountain, the supreme
sacrifice. Not to be outdone by a Wyoming fan, the
Colorado State fan jumped up and cried out, "THIS IS
FOR THE CSU RAMS!" and quickly threw himself off the
mountain, also willing to sacrifice himself to prove
his devotion to his team. Refusing to be outdone by
the Wyoming and CSU fans, the Utah fan rose to his
feet, summoned up every ounce of his courage, and
yelled at the top of his lungs, "THIS IS FOR THE UTAH
UTES!" and without a moment's hesitation, shoved the
BYU fan off the mountain :D

I'm sorry to hear that Colorado lost and won't even go to a Bowl this year, Rock.

Well, at least the Irish smoked Stanfurd at their place 57-7. It's likely that it's too little, too late, as they aren't eligible for a Bowl even if they beat Syracuse and finish 6-6, since five Big East teams will finish with better records (because ND is a member of the Big East in sports other than football.) Confused? So is this weird BCS system.

I know that's your gift of wit, but believe me, Rock, it won't happen. The AD has already fired Frank Solich and instated Bo Pelini as interim coach. Since he is the man credited with the Cornhusker "resurrection", it makes sense from a PR viewpoint. Well, I am happy.  My team won again (no surprise there)

I have been a Boise State Fan for many years.  This is a great team, that never gets the press it deserves because it is always stuck in a sucky conference.  But this weekend, they took the Western Athletic Conference after a 56-3 pounding of Nevada.

So yet again, they will be playing in the Humanitarian Bowl on New Years Day as the home team, in their own stadium.

For those that have not heard of that bowl, it is often called the "Tidy Bowl", because BSU plays on a "Tidy Bowl Blue" astroturf field.

But for us Bronco fans, all is not lost.  There are still a few bowl openings to be filled, and we are hoping that we might get one of them.  After all, it will be dull to win the H-Bowl for the 5th time in a row.

I saw the Sugar Bowl, but not the Rose Bowl. But after seeing the last 5 minutes of ugliness between LSU and Oklahoma, I am convinced USC should be the only National Champion. Any time that is lucky enough to win while committing 5 turnovers and having a blocked punt doesn't deserve the Championship. And LSU blatently capitalized on its home field advantage, but barely. You needed to look before you could find any Sooner supporters. And they still weren't a cinch to win it until the final punt, which the Sooners didn't even bother to receive. What was that all about? USC isn't one of my favorite teams, but IMHO and most others', they deserve the title.

BTW, Purdue lost the Capital One Bowl to Georgia 34-27 in OT. :(

Hopefully Purdue will do better in the basketball tourney.

I watched both the Rose and the Sugar and I agree with you IndyGent.  USC is the clear choice to me for National Champion.  The Sugar matched up two of the worst teams I've ever seen play for a so-called title.  OU looked like they could of won in the end if they kept running the ball.  They actually had the vaunted LSU defense on the ropes at the end but White just kept throwing hail marys.
