Subject: Emmitt Smith Best Ever....NOT!!!

Written By: RockandRollFan on 10/05/03 at 09:47 p.m.

Keep losing those yards (6 carries for minus 1 yard) Go back behind Walter Payton (The REAL DEAL) where you belong....
best backs ever:
1. Walter Payton....period!

best POTENTIAL but not quite there...(average yards and team switches)
2. Terrell Davis.....had a 2,000 yard season AND had almost half (7,000) yards in just 5 healthy seasons....
2. (Tie) Barry....put him in Dallas with Troy's drug boys and he runs wild...Emmitt goes to Detroit with NO offensive line and he's just like he was today...6 carries for 1 negative yard...leaving a quarterback argument here...Put Montana on Denver and he is done after 3 years..put John Elway on San Francisco and they still win those Super Bowls....

3. Jim Brown..1,863 yards in a 12 game season...great football player.bad person (Multiple Assaults)

4. In loving memory of Nicole BROWN..I wish to say that even though "Just Say NO-J"..was a great running back...he will get NO credit from me because he murdered his ex and a caring companion in cold blood (You know how I feel about murder)..NO-J is NOTHING

I have no idea who should be next.....

What about Gayle Sayers? He might have been the greatest ever had it not been for his career ending knee injuries.

Put Barry on Dallas from the start and he probably breaks Paytons record by 1997...meanwhile have Mr. Smith go to Detroit and he never breaks 1,000 yards for a season again!  I also repeat...Terrell Davis...a 2,000 yard runner with a career cut short by injury (Much like Gale Sayers) was on pace to break that record as well.  If Sayers is in the Hall Of Fame without a title then I certainly think Terrell deserves his place there too by way of his stats and his MVP in Super Bowl 32 and back to back titles :)

Okay....back to the topic!  Emmitt has a broken shoulder blade.....I hope that he recovers fast so he can lose enough yards to drop below Walter Payton ;)

Just curious what do you got against Emmitt Smith? The mans accomplished so much Walter Payton IS NOT GOING GET THAT RUSHING TITLE BACK NO MATTER WHAT....SO DEAL WITH IT!Being from Philly we hate the Cowboys but I give EMMITT THE RESPECT HE DESERVES.O.J. DESERVES HIS PROPS TOO EVEN THOUGH HE KILLED HIS WIFE.You gotta separate what he did on the field and his personal life.Football players are not true role models but you gotta respect their abilility to make it to the pros the work ethic is a "role model" for anyone.

Sorry...he's a great role model but as for a guy past his prime playing the last couple years JUST to break Walters record?  I mean at least Payton retired at the top of his game before he eroded.  It was also his attitude how he was the BEST...bragging about it instead of being honored.  That's all....sorry I pissed you off :-/

On the field, OJ Simpson and Walter Payton absolutely tore apart the opposition.  The stats are there, so you really can't argue them.

Emmitt Smith had the advantage of a Hall-of-Fame-caliber offensive line and a pretty darn good QB in Troy Aikman to bolster his numbers, and that does not take away from his accomplishments either.  But in Arizona, he has two things going against him.  1)  He's old and 2) the O-line sucks.

Personally I think of Barry Sanders as a better RB, just because I love the way he runs.  And Sanders didn't exactly have a good line to run through either.  But that's just my opinion.

That's what this discussion is, anyway...opinion.  The only "facts" are in the stats, and the stats don't lie.

To me Barry Sanders was better than Emmit. Barry could run through defenders like nobody else I had ever seen before. Barry had a god given gift. Emmit was good but better than Barry? No.

I agree tv, Barry is even better than Terrell Davis, and he was one of my favorite running backs. Barry is behind Walter Payton. I love the Broncos though, whom will the Super Bowl this year, and hopefully John Elways will be proud of a back to back team again.
